.
This is our little kitchen landing entryway.
.

.
The husband tore down the old one a few years back and replaced the wood with composite decking, built a new frame, added glass and installed new soffit on the ceiling.
.

.
What he didn’t do was replace the old storm door.
.

.
Which, over the winter had a bad spell and kind of… exploded.
.

.
We’re not sure what went wrong on the bottom right but before I knew what was happening the other day….
.

.
The husband had removed it.
.

.
And sanded down the old frame because he was bored and had nothing to do.
Problem is no one had the one he wanted in stock so now we have to wait a few weeks for delivery.
Planning is not his strong suit.
🥴
.
I have replaced so many storm doors over the years. All of them had particleboard components somewhere inside. Water gets in, the wood swells and the distorted door never closes right again.
I replaced them all with Larson 100% aluminum storm doors. Ours are the model with retractable screens. The first one we bought is now over 8 years old and we’ve had zero problems.

Ironically that old door was on the house when we bought it… almost 24 years ago. So I guess it gave us its best.
The new door you described sounds like what my husband ordered.

24 years is a good run. I hope I don’t have to replace one during the next 24.

That is an extremely attractive entry. Adding the glass windows is a special touch. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

Thanks. There’s basically a little alleyway between the garage and the kitchen door that acts like a Chicago wind tunnel. If you stand there you get buffeted, so this is a nice little sheltered spot when you’re bringing groceries in.

A wonderful idea!!! I remember them being called “breezeways”. I had a large one on my house when I lived in town. My son and all the neighbor kids played there.

Well, at least your husband is handy.;) Twenty-four years is a good run.

He is handy. To a point.
Generally just enough to get us in trouble…

Your husband is very handy. I’d be thankful for that! We hire everything out. We just signed a contract for new windows and sliding glass doors which hubby wants to install next May! At least I got him to agree.

I am thankful.
But projects rarely go smoothly here.
I hire out plumbing and most electrical. Finish carpentry work too. Husband doesn’t have the patience.

Wait, Don’t you have a cat? I hope you are keeping it in a room somewhere so as not to get out.

I could keep him busy too, but he only does projects he deems worthy.

What he lacks in foresight he makes up for in determination! Gotta admire that.
