.
When it’s hot and humid we flip on the air conditioning, but the outdoor critters aren’t so lucky. They have to find relief in other ways.

.
The red squirrel?
.

.
She sploots.
.

.
Yes, autocorrect… that is the correct spelling.
.

.
Splooting:
Most commonly used by dogs and squirrels. Flattening their belly against a cold surface (like tile or hardwood) helps them regulate body temperature.
.

.
This little lady was in full sploot for half an hour.
.

.
Right on top of the layer of sparrow poo and stray seeds the birds insist on eating on the deck railing.
🥴
.
Ours do that on our front porch (which is usually in the shade) and in the grass that’s in the shade.

That’s what I didn’t understand, this was right in the sun. It couldn’t have been very cool.

We have one black squirrel that sploots on the driveway. That has to be hotter than hot.

I guess, that’s the “poo” part of “sploot”

On our deck it is.

Last time I “splooted” was when I was 3 and huggied the floor after a face-first fall. 🤣🤣🤣

Sploot: the equivalent of a cold wet wash cloth on your face.

I won’t suggest electrifying the railing. I already know what you’ll say.
So I’ll suggest cooling it.

I’m sure they’d love that.

My goodness, I have to compliment you on your lawn. It is perfectly mowed. Is that your husband’s handiwork? Wow, perfect. Even the squirrel seems to fit in naturally. Ours are always trying to squeeze in some food from the bird feeder and chill out the local birds. I would drop some peanuts but I am not sure they might take over and right now there is equality and inclusion in the backyard, mostly.

Yes, my husband prides himself on our lawn. I used to do a lot of mowing, but my knee doesn’t allow me to now.

Yes, I completely understand.

Our squirrels sploot also. My daughter’s pug does, too.

Our squirrels have not assumed this position. They have kept busy on nut patrol. That being said, I think they live in and around some nearby trees with lots of shade, so maybe common sense is displaying itself by their staying under the trees whenever “the gathering” is not taking place.

I haven’t seen our grey squirrels do it as they stay near the trees. But these little reds are always running across our deck and porches.
