Husband nursing, aka – porn for women.

.

Day 3 of partial knee replacement.

Horribly swollen, stiff, uncomfortable and starting to show some bruising.

.

.

Last day with the sexy compression stocking and I’m doing the best I can to remain positive. I ice, I elevate, I hobble around with the walker I said I wouldn’t use.

Ha!

Shows what I know. That thing is my best friend right now.

Home physical therapist came for the first time today and damn. Just that little bit of exercise knocked me for a loop. Tired doesn’t begin to describe it.

The nerve block hasn’t worn off yet, which is a bit unusual but not unheard of. They say 4-48 hours and I’m past 80, but if it keeps the pain at bay I won’t complain about the constant numbness.

My husband? He’s really stepped up.

When I had my hysterectomy 11 years ago he was a lousy nurse so I had my doubts this time around, but the man has been wonderful. He brings me everything I need, feeds me, makes sure I don’t fall, keeps tracks of my meds and yes…

He’s doing housework.

.

.

Be still my heart.

I’ve waited 42 years for this!

He vacuumed, swept, dusted, does the dishes and ran a load of laundry. He scrubbed the shower and feeds the cat. He even took everything out of the fridge and washed it clean.

This is (almost) better than sex.

My recovery won’t be pleasant…. but it’s wonderful to have a caring partner help me through the tough parts.

❤️

  1. I know you never doubted that he would do all of this and more…love is in the details. You’ve probably spoiled each other through the years – and sometimes that means feeding the cat and vacuuming.

  2. That is so sweet! One secret I have always known is that my husband is a wonderful cook and baker, so I did get a little spoiled. We share cooking dinner. I kept it a secret as a few girlfriends seemed a little pissed off at me! It will get better.

      1. As we get a little older, we like take out more and last minute improvisation. Both of us are good cooks, but sometimes the urge to cook gets less and less with time. I did like him doing all the grocery shopping and most of the cleaning, also! I did not want to shirk all my things to do. He is a good one!

  3. I’m surprised that, like me, you’re having a loooong response to the nerve block. Mine was treated as both highly uncommon and no big deal. For me, sensations started returning on day 7.

The top of my knee remains “numb” as a result of scar tissue, but I no longer notice it.

I think it was a week after surgery when I realized I could quit using the walker and switch to a cane & light knee brace.

Ohhhh…. to have an assistant housekeeper. I’m envious!!

I hope you’re feeling better soon!!

    1. I was told to massage the incision (after it’s fully closed) with vitamin e oil twice a day to break up the scar tissue. I’m not as vain as I used to be, but still hope it’s not too horrible.

  4. What a wonderful update, Rivergirl! Seeing your husband step up and take care of everything from the laundry to feeding the cat is so sweet (and well-earned after you nursing him over the years!).

  5. Without a caring partner, surgery recovery isn’t possible. Did they give you any type of compression ice machine? My husband rented the NICE machine for a few months, but he was also given (sold) one that we fill with ice and water and has compression called BREG Polar Care Wave.
