Random rambling

.

I grew up in New Jersey and had many Italian friends. These Italian friends had Italian mothers who cooked. Boy howdy, did they ever. So when I saw this list the other day I knew I would do pretty well…

.

.

Though I do have a tendency to make my bruschetta a soft middle consonant instead of hard.

.

.

It’s bush hogging season in the country and when the man comes to do our neighbor’s field …

.

.

We have him do our back half acre to the woods as well.

.

.

Our backyard leaves have turned, but like the rest of the state not vibrantly.

Are you thinking about moving? Maybe into a slightly larger home?

If so, I’ve got your back.

And if the high cost seems out of reach, just know it’s the house where Dark Shadows was filmed years ago. Walking the halls with Barnabas Collins? You can’t put a price on that.

.

.

Am I the only one who does this? You’re driving down the road when you hear a song you want to add to your iPod so you take a picture of the radio for future reference?

.

.

Considering no one uses iPods anymore, I’m going to guess yes.

I’m the only dinosaur who does this.

.

I’ve long considered myself a tree hugging liberal without ever giving much thought to actually hugging a tree.

Until I read this..

Who knew?

😉

He really can’t help himself.

.

My husband loves to talk. To anyone. At any time. Even if he’s paying them to work.

.

.

This happened yesterday when the man we hire to bush hog our field every autumn showed up with his tractor.

.

.

That’s the tractor under the arrow at the bottom of the hill. It was turned off and standing still because my husband went out to talk to him halfway through the mowing.

.

.

Mowed field on the right. Unmowed on the left.

The worst part? My husband talked to the man for so long he wasn’t able to finish and we were left with a big patch of untouched field.

No telling when he’ll be able to come back and complete the job .

Things like this make me wish I could duct tape my husband to a chair.

With a gag in his mouth.

🤣

.

It’s hog time.

.

I woke up yesterday morning to fog in our neighbor’s field….

.

.

And the distinct sound of rumbling…. which at this time of year could only mean one thing.

.

.

Fall in the country means bush hogging and as the sun started to break through, the hog was hard at work.

.

.

Our neighbor hires a local man every autumn to knock down the growth in her fields. This is necessary if you want to keep fields from becoming forests and since he’s right next door…. we piggyback on the opportunity and have him do our little parcel of back field as well.

.

.

And as I looked out on our backyard pre hogging, I was pleased to see the maple trees we planted this spring had survived the awful summer drought and were beginning to turn color like their larger neighbors.

.

.

It was touch and go for a while. Maine was hot and dry for months and we’re on a well. I had to stop dragging my 300 feet of hose out there to water them and I feared our nearly $1,000 investment would shrivel up and die. But they seem to have hung on and for that I’m grateful.

.

.

Later on in the day it was our turn.

.

.

And those trees sure do make a dramatic background for hogging.
