When you need some squashed cider ….

.

Every fall I have to make a pilgrimage.

And while I used to drive to South Berwick, Maine this year I had to drive farther … down to Dover, New Hampshire because the cider I crave has moved in to larger new digs.

.

.

This is small batch hard cider and has a very limited distribution range. Even if I do manage to find an elusive 4 pack in a store up our way, it’s never the seasonal flavors I want.

.

.

With that many varieties, we had to do a flight.

.

.

Which made me add a melon crush and a ginjah baby to the three packs of squashed I brought home. .

.

.

You’re looking at $90 worth.

The prices make me gasp every time… $18 a four pack, which is $4.50 per can.

Insane.

But then so is the apple-y goodness.

😉

.

I had to.

.

When I found and bought my most fabulous beer tap a while back, I ran across another one I knew I had to buy as well.

.

.

I mean really, how could I not?

.

.

It’s a woodchuck. Holding an apple. They could have modeled him after our yearly brood.

.

.

Perfect for a man cave/barn whose crawl space serves as a seasonal chucker hotel.

He now has pride of place on an overturned shot glass in between the giant bullet and my freaky cocktail stirrers.

Life is good.

Liquid Saturday , Part 2.

.

There’s a small company in Rollinsford New Hampshire that produces some very tasty hard cider. I discovered them at a bar in NH two years ago and have yet been able to find it in Maine.

.

.

Welcome to part two of the liquid Saturday tour. North Country Cider.

.

.

Housed on the bottom floor of an old mill.

.

.

It was actually a tiny place, not much to see… but we were there, so we drank.

.

.

The flight was interesting. I didn’t care for the cranberry…. but the Wulf Kitty, with tart cherry, tangerine zest and ginger? Ooh la la!

.

.

After drinking our fill we walked around the old mill and realized they must have let the flood waters course right under the first floor back in the day.

Then it was back inside the store.

.

Where I bought two four packs of Squashed, their seasonal offering that I had discovered and loved two years ago. Wood fire roasted Kabocha squash cider, with ginger and a hint of nutmeg. It’s bizarre, and quite delicious.

I also picked up a four pack of this:

.

.

I have no idea how it tastes, but with a name like that? How could I not.

.

Because Scrabble is better with a little drinkie poo.

.

And if you enjoy hard cider?

.

.

You’ve got to try this brand I just discovered at Bootleggers. The liquor store, not this guy…

.

.

Black Widow cider.

.

.

It’s fabulous, and is named after a deadly spider. What more could you ask?

.

.

As for Scrabble?

.

.

I kicked the husband’s butt again, even with three out of the four U’s.
