After leaving the medical clinic, and arming myself with a large jug of Gatorade against the altitude sickness…. we followed the doctor’s advice and drove to Cottonwood, Arizona where the elevation was much lower. She told me to have lunch, slowly walk around and drink plenty of fluids.

Sadly, not my kind of fluids… but I obeyed because I was still feeling lousy.

Cottonwood is an old western town and Main Street plays that up for the tourists.

Although Santa looked a bit too happy if you want my opinion.

I really have no explanation for this.
So we walked…

And found a nice restaurant.

With a bit of history.

You have to hand it to their interior decorator.
Heck, I didn’t even know charred concrete was in this season.

There were also cacti in soup cans on each table. Very high class…

The husband ordered French Onion soup with Caesar salad, which came with an out of proportion loaf of bread.
I hemmed and hawed over the menu since…..
Sigh.

It would be an alcohol free meal.

But after not eating for 3 days I wanted comfort food…

And went with the ham and cheese stuffed meatloaf, mashed potatoes and veggies.
And then… Maple Bourbon Creme Brulee.

Because a girl can’t go completely cold turkey ya know.
After lunch we ducked in and out of a few shops where I saw purse that was screaming my name…

Have wine, will travel.

And passed by a plant called a desert spoon, which looked nothing like a spoon.
Really.. A spoon? How would you eat your Rice Krispies with that.
I think the botanist had my lunchtime cocktail. And then some.

Heading back to Sedona there were rocks…

Glorious, breathtaking rocks!

And this….

Beware!

Hula Hooping cowboys ahead.
Oh yes, you were in AZ at a much prettier time of year than we were. I like the idea of a charred concrete wall motif for a restaurant. It’s memorable. I also like the idea of Maple Bourbon Creme Brulee. What’s not to love there?

I think it was the perfect time of the year to go… mild temps and rain so no scorched desert feel.

I don’t mind the hula hooping cowboy. What I’d really love to see is a hula hooping horse. That’d be a sight to see.
Maybe someday I’ll visit Arizona, perhaps even Colorado.

Colorado is in my bucket list… although I’ll have to be more careful acclimating.

Maple Bourbon Cream Brûlée sounds fabulous. Fully of healthy stuff and good for you. Alcohol can be used if you run out of antiseptic so that was sensibly medicinal if you want my opinion. A girl needs a little protection against Wild West Germaloids!!

Precisely my thinking. After a few days I was tempted to rub rum behind my ears in place of perfume…

Eau de wino. Works for me!
I really like rum too. It’s so versatile. Rum cake, rum butter, rum ice cream, rum steak sauce.. it’s even athletic. Rum runners.. almost the perfect food.

We’ll change the capital to Margaritaville. We got this.
Dems have an ass, Republicans have a hefferlump, us? We’ll have a red solo cup.
Wonder if Toby Keith would sing at our Inauguration?

A Margaritaville capitol? Sublime! You hold a red solo cup, I’ll hold a martini glass… we have to cover all the economic bases.

I’m trying to figure out what the hula hooping cowboy sign is actually supposed to be representing. That makes no sense!
And being on the lower, lower class of the dining chain… the presentations of certain dishes always leaves me scratching my head a bit… but that creme brulee’s gotta be the weirdest one I’ve ever seen. What’s with the lines of syrup (I guess) and why did they set the bowl in the middle of it? That seems unnecessarily messy…

We saw a similar… although horseless… hula hoop warning sign in Vermont last year. At first I thought it was a printing error… now? I still have no clue.
As for the Creme Brulee, it’s food art!

Love the photos. My husband often says he wants to take a trip out west, and I’d also enjoy it. However, I never considered altitude sickness. I’ll keep that in mind if we ever decide to visit those mountainous areas.

Stay low for the first few days and you should be fine. Don’t follow my example and have a liquid lunch at high elevation!

I’ve never heard of ham and cheese stuffed meatloaf, but now I wanna try it. And I can do creme brulee any day, all day long! Yum. I think the hula hoop is supposed to be a lasso, but what the hell do I know. I like hula hoop better. Sign me up for the Red Solo Cup/Martini Glass party! Mona

Sliced ham and shredded cheddar is fab in meatloaf. My SIL used to roll it out like pinwheel dough.
And I don’t think the sign showed a lasso because I saw the same one in Vermont, minus the horse, and they don’t lasso anything there.
( Sign you up? Hell, you can be Secretary of State! )

“And went with the ham and cheese stuffed meatloaf, mashed potatoes and veggies. And then… Maple Bourbon Creme Brulee.” That sounds awful though I would probably eat it IF you ordered it for me and was paying but then I eat anything!! I’ll stick with Fred–looks, with that loaf of bread, he got the better deal!!

It wasn’t awful at all, it was wonderful. And while Fred’s loaf was impressive ( did I say that? ) his salad and soup were just mediocre.

I was looking closely at the restuarant picture for the charred, concrete walls but alas it’s evading me. Hope it was actually there and that it was beautiful. The idea of such a motif is a great one.

If you look at the shot with the chandelier, in the back, on the left hand side… you’ll see some charring. It was subtle and sanded down… but there!
