Have you ever fallen head over heels in love with a perfume? Become so completely enamored with it that you’ve worn it since the first day it was released? I did, way back in 1986 when Prescriptives (a sister company to Clinique) released Calyx.
.
Energizing and audacious, the classic, acclaimed fragrance of Calyx is crisp, green, and ideal for the fragrance connoisseur who appreciates the unique and distinctive. Notes: Grapefruit, Mandarin, Passion Fruit, Mango, Papaya, Freesia, Muguet, Neroli, Lily, Jasmine, Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Vetiver.
.
What on earth is a Calyx? Well, I’m glad you asked.
.

.
Anywho…. this has been my signature fragrance for 35 years and while I love to try other scents, I always have a bottle of my favorite waiting in the wings.
Enter 2021, another shit show of a year where Covid is thriving but my beloved perfume will cease to exist. Yes, to my utter and absolute horror I discovered the company has halted production… and River is not a happy camper.
My second reaction…. after screaming Noooo! at the top of my lungs?
Amazon.
.

.
Thankfully I found some at a very reasonable price and ordered 3 bottles. But after they arrived I thought hmm… better get a few more just to be safe.
.

.
But damn it! The price gouging had already begun.
I paid $45 for 1.7 Oz …. now it’s $249 for half an ounce.
And a few days later?
.

.
Holy Hell!
I love it…. but not that much.
.
Covid is also known as RAISE PRICES STUPIDLY!!

This actually has nothing to do with Covid, but yes.

Holy crap River, price gouging is an understatement! But just to be fair, it’s happening with my favorite perfume as well and I don’t know why because it isn’t being discontinued. The last bottle I got was already expensive but now? It’s downright impossible to find at a decent price.

What’s your favorite?

Calvin Klein Woman. It use to be Perry Ellis 360 White, but then I took my mom to the doctor one time and I swear every old lady in the waiting room was wearing that fragrance. So I changed it up, it took me an entire year to find my “new” favorite. And now, I’m like this price gouging is ridiculous!

Ha! When the senior set embraces your fragrance it’s definitely time to change…

Isn’t that the reason (well, one of them) you have a husband, birthdays and anniversaries????

My husband is a lot of wonderful things, but clever gift giver isn’t one of them.

Supply and demand. So people can’t hoard it like toilet paper.

You sure it’s being discontinued?

I saw an article that said it was being discontinued, can’t remember where. Then when I saw the Amazon price gouging, I figured they were right. I hope it’s a lie. I really do!

All I can find online is stuff from 2009 saying that it was going to be sold by clinique instead of prescriptive. Maybe you should contact clinique to find out for sure.

To jump right into your question: no.

Well, I am a guy, and I hate Old Spice, so a dab of gun cleaning oil behind the ear gives me the aroma I really like and scares away snowflakes…sends them to a safe space to be exact.

Grapefruit essential oil is a delicious fragrance – maybe get a few bottles of the essential oils mentioned in the perfume list and play around with them – you may like it better and find multiple purposes.

I doubt my nose is that refined. We met a “nose” in Grasse, France. He didn’t drink alcohol or caffeine. Didn’t eat salt or spice. Didn’t wear deodorant. They lost me on the first one…

What the hell? I don’t wear perfume, but I understand the need for your ‘regular stuff’. Perhaps you’d better start growing your own Calyx?

I could, yes. But who has the time…

I do so hate that. Price gouging and discontinued perfume UGH! Since the day I smelled it in 1995 Poeme became my signature scent and it, too, got discontinued. I ended up ordering samples of new-to-me perfumes from different perfumers on eBay (minimal cost, but a lot of disappointment) and finally found a new signature scent. Much as I love the new one, I’m still gutted Lancome put me through this trauma.

Same thing is happening with my favorite lady gaga fame perfume. It makes me so angry that people do this $150 for a sample, even….ugh😡

I understand women love to wear perfume, but I ave n3ver understood why! I love to smell raw woman, faintly tinged with the smell of whatever soap she uses. To me that is the best perfume in the world. And it’s cheaper than borscht. Can you say “Free!”

Raw woman? Maybe you could bottle that…

That’s what I thought when I wrote it, only I have no idea how to synthesize it. It’s never quite the same everyday, and it differs woman to woman. But, there isn’t a sexier sce t in thiss world than Raw Woman.

Cathy has one called Dune, by Christian Dior. It’s absolutely intoxicating. If she sits next to me while she’s wearing it, I get all nervous.

I used to wear Dior’s Poison, but I remember Dune.
