Now that the husband has a fancy new pool table, he’s finally taken on the monumental task of teaching me how to play.
.

.
So far? I suck. And it seems my underlying strategy is to keep all my balls on the table in order to block his access to the pockets.
Not for everyone, I know. But it’s all I’ve got right now.
.

.
Outside? There are some pretty spectacular sunsets.
.

.
And a very well staked Christmas reindeer who may be there until spring.
.

.
Inside?
Lord Dudley Mountcatten is unsuccessfully hiding behind a coffee table leg.

It’s flipping cold… I’m barely venturing out. But there’s a thaw today… Not sure if mud is better than ice.

I went to the barn and back yesterday. That was it.

My money’s on ice. Not that it’s all that good, but if you slip and bust your butt you can get up, dust off your aforementioned butt and be on your way. Do that in the mud and, well, you get the picture. Here’s a little pseudo math: Ice+mud=good time to stay home.

I’ve been stuck in mud twice. Up to my knees as an adult, waist as a child. I’m afraid I’ll take ice…

When I was eight or so I was walking to school in my brand new cowboy boots with the multi-colored stitching, just itching to show them off. I was taking a shortcut, the primary cause of my chronic tardiness, and stepped into a patch of mud most of the way up to my knees. When I tried to step back the mud sucked the boot right off my foot. I had to get on my hands and knees to retrieve it, so by the time I was appropriately shod and standing on solid ground I was a piping hot mess. I turned around and went home. When I got there I was crying. My super cool boots were ruined and I was sure my mom was going to be mad at me. She wasn’t, but she did spray me off with the hose before she let me in the house.
That’s a great memory, it made me leak around the eyes a little bit when I was writing it. Precious as it is, though, I’ll be taking the ice.

Agreed. 😛
Also wiping puppy paws because of ice is easier than mud…

That’s one more nice pool table, gotta say. If you’re having fun you’re winning.
Your sunsets are very beautiful. The open sky at my house is to the east, so we get the sunrise and moonrise, as well as late sun on the mountains. The sunset is over the ridge with a lot of trees between here and there. Still beautiful, just not as big.
I just caught Otto jumping into the Ficus tree in our dining room. I guess we all have our own idea of fun I can’t wait until he has a new idea. Hiding behind a table leg looks like it might be a good one.
It’s 23 here right now and it’s only supposed to get up to 53. Oh, the Humanity!

I’m having fun and do well with the long shots. Just can’t master the little soft taps.
We have a big sunrise and a big sunset. A definite benefit of living in farm country.

I used to play my brother for a penny a minute at the Navy bowling alley. I never did get better at it. He ended up with a pool table in his basement and had real difficulty getting it out again after his lost touch with his unbelievably strong friend…

I’m afraid we’ll probably have to sell the house/barn with our table included.

Don’t worry, soon you’ll be kicking the hubs behind like you do in Scrabble. Well that deer stood up to the holidays better than expected. As for his Lordship, cute as always.

We’ve played about a dozen times, I beat him once. But he’s had roughly 50 years of practice more than me, so I call that progress.

I remember learning how to play pool when I was a teenager. Lots of friends had pool tables so it was the thing. Can’t say that I loved the game, but didn’t hate it either.

I’m enjoying it, though it is quite frustrating. Apparently I always hit too hard, but that ball cracking sound is so satisfying……

Played pool 2-3 hours a day every week for 2 summers. I love it. No room for a table tho…

You can always build a rough storage barn….. and then spend tens of thousands of dollars refitting and remodeling it.

After all that gloating in Scrabble, you are getting your comeuppance.

The husband has been playing for 50 years… I just learned last week. Geesh, it will take me at least a month to start skunking him.

Tara’s a great pool player. She even has her own cue stick (purple, no less). I never really played, so naturally, it’s intimidating going up against her, especially when she’s so quick to tell me I’m holding the stick wrong. Yet, I actually do manage to beat her about half the times we play. I guess the lesson is, it’s a pretty easy game to pick up. And even if you aren’t great at getting the balls into the pockets, there’s always a chance that your opponent will scratch and you’ll win by default.

That would be nice. Hasn’t happened yet though….

I always wanted a pool table, but there’d be no place roomy enough for one here. I’ve rarely had the opportunity to play, but always thought knocking shiny colored balls around with sticks looked like fun…

It’s quite satisfying. When they go where you want them to that is.

If hubby is willing to teach you to play pool well enough to “skunk” him, the least you can do is teach him to play Scrabble well enough not to stink up the joint.

Ha! I’ve tried. Taught him all my secret strategies…

Playing Pool is EASY!
1. Fix yourself a drink
2. Put some nice music on
3. Select a cue stick
4. Sip your drink
5. Take a shot . . . either kind 😀
6. Take a drink every time you sink a ball ~> Sink & Drink
7. Take a drink every time your opponent sinks a ball
8. Stop caring about whether any of your shots go in
ENJOY!

Oh lord. That cat is so darn photogenic; he made me smile!
Lovely sunset and STILL STANDING deer.
I enjoy playing pool, but mostly only if I’m winning. Which is kind of rare…

I haven’t reached the winning stage yet, I’m sure it will be wonderful.
