In which we discover how truly anal I am.

.

I have a large collection of vintage vinyl albums. It used to number close to 800, but I made the mistake of storing a large portion of them in my MIL’s attic years ago between moves and a leaky roof cut my collection in half. Today, after culling… it’s slightly over 350, and though they’ve been housed in plastic crates for the past 20 years, I recently decided they should be relocated to the man cave in vintage wooden beer or whiskey crates.

.

Did I mention my albums are organized alphabetically?

.

.

The Dewar’s scotch crate that I liberated from the husband’s stash (because if he’s not going to give it to the pub, he can give it to me) has A-B.

When I pick up a few replacements here and there at flea markets?

.

.

Adjustments must be made.

Pickwick Ale?

.

.

C, D, E and F.

Those were the only two alcohol related crates my husband had in his crap treasure filled cellar, so I guess I’ll have to go antique shopping for G through Z.

😉

  1. That looks like a nice collection. I lost mine to the ex. I’ve replaced the music, but not on vinyl. So, hubs is selling at flea markets while you are searching for crates. Hmmm, I think we need a net volume measurement on the way out vs. the way back.

  2. I sold my thousands of old 78s several years ago, but kept my hundreds of LP albums. Mine are arranged alphabetically by category (male vocalists, female vocals, big bands, etc.) in record cabinets. I see we have at lest one album in common: JOHNNY CASH AT FOLSOM PRISON, which leads me to pun that i plan to keep my collection for life!

  3. Wow, that is one impressive collection sista, seriously. I am a Johnny Cash fan and that album is one my parents had. But I have a question, what or should I say whom, is Ultimate Spinach?
It makes me miss my LP collection. Out of my collection I only have three LPs left because I left the rest behind at my ex-husbands house thinking I’d go back and get them. But the bastard refused to let me back to retrieve the rest of my things. I found out later he had a yard sale and sold all of my things. But I cherish those three I have and will never part with them, never.

      1. I take it you grew up 8n or near Boston? I had never heard of Ult8mate Spinach either. Very Airplane-ish. Probably too Airplane-ish. But not bad for all that. The bass line is boring, though. I would have zoned out playing that song for over 7 minutes. Probably nice to listen to on Purple Double Domes.

      2. Ahhh. Good discovery. There are lots of bands/albums I never got around to when they were current, there were too many, and regional groups who never got national airplay. I was lucky in Winnipeg. We had talent up the yin/yang, but most had to go elsewhere to get discovered, à là Neil Young!

  4. I love the Grateful Dead. I only have two albums on vinyl, but one of them is Europe ’72, which is incredible. There are so many bootleg and soundboard recordings now, it’s really hard to keep up with everything.
Johnny Cash isn’t my favorite country artist but I can’t deny his greatness. His cover of “Hurt” by Trent Reznor proves that you can die of a broken heart.
I like the crates, much better than milk boxes.

    1. I think I have a dozen or more Dead albums. I loved them back in the day… and while I’m not a huge Cash fan either… you’re right. Hurt is absolutely heartbreaking.

  5. An enviable collection. I left my collection with a friend who owned her own house. I didn’t get back for two years. She had sold the house and moved to Toronto. She hated Toronto. But she was untraceable. Bye bye record collection. Hope she listens to some of the records, or sold them for a good price. There were some collectibles in there. Including sone bootleg Hendrix from Europe.

  6. You have an amazing collection. I agree you need more vintage crates…you should put the husband to work on finding those for you instead of (per you) useless items
