As you know…. Stephen King is from, and still lives in Maine. His home in Bangor is a veritable tourist attraction and people drive from far and wide just to take selfies in front of it.
But now?
.

.
You could save time and gas by purchasing a house in his neighborhood.
.

.
Imagine knocking on Stephen’s door the next time you run out of sugar while baking. Surely that’s worth 900k.
.
Totally worth it . . . the house is gorgeous. Alas, it’s no longer on the market ~ the sale closed at the end of December.

Well that’s disappointing, I was just thinking about curtains.

Thank you. Stephen is a pretty popular author, you’d think being his neighbor would garner a little more interest.

I know I would pass, even if the house cost a buck. Who wants a home that could well be overrun by souvenir seekers? Stephen may have played in that yard as a child!

Actually Stephen grew up in the Durham/Lisbon area. Quite a few of my husband’s family went to school with him.

Oh deal lort, and I thought the houses around here were expensive. No thank you, not even if it is Stephen King.

Here in SoCal, that is a seriously low price! A 2bd, 1ba 2000 sqft home by me (on border of gang area) just sold for $1M!

Maine is pricey depending on the area, but Cali is beyond ridiculous.

The $1M house on my block remains INSANE. Even more, I think the younger couple paid cash.
Bonus points to them… on 2nd mtg the wife invited me inside. Husband kept popping into hallway to talk – wearing only a towel. Not at all shocking to me, but I imagine it would startle many!!

$1M in cash? Clearly California has a higher minimum wage than Maine…

A house that size in El Paso would go for about $350K to $450K. Depending on the location, but there have been a couple in the historic district that have gone for about $1 mil.

Fair market on the house, due yo some very nice remodeling, was about $800k. I haven’t (yet) learned why the couple paid so much, esp when the listing had dropped to just under $1M. No one thought they’d get it.

Bangor is the beginning of northern Maine, prices are lower there. If it was in my area it would be $1.5M.

It surely would be!!

Well there you go.
When you’re settled, give me a ring. I’ll bring cookies.

What good is wanting a home almost next door to the “King of the thrill”
If you can’t get more “Bangor for the buck” because you can’t afford the bill?

Maybe you can rent out your driveway for tourist parking…?

I just saw the pictures. I would get lost in a house that big. Steven King could write a book about being his neighbor..that might be scary.

I bet he throws great Halloween parties.

But does it have a large population of photogenic squirrels?

It’s Stephen King, the squirrels are probably homicidal mutants. Photograph at your own risk.

Ah, normal squirrels then! Let me see if I have $900,000 in change in my couch cushions…

The house is amazing. But for me, I’d always wonder if he drew most of his inspiration from the neighborhood. If I was living in that house, I’m not sure any high-tech security system would ever make me feel secure.

Just steer clear of sewer grates, dead cats and 58 Plymouths. You’ll be fine.

Mrs. Chess wanted to put a clown head in the sewer grate on the street in front of our house this past Halloween. I wonder about her sometimes…

You should have let her. Think of the money you would have saved on Halloween candy.

Holy Mackeral. That house is lovely, and I would have guessed it would be much more expensive.
The updates are perfect, but can you ever get Ghosts to leave a house that old? I think not.

The farther north you go the less expensive the houses become. As for ghosts, I think they’re staying put.

I wonder if they’re moving ’cause they’re sick of tourists up and down their street.

That’s a very distinct possibility….
