I woke up last week and found this on our kitchen porch.
.

.
And when there are red squirrel tracks?
.

.
There’s a red squirrel in the vicinity.
.

.
Sigh.
Here we go again….

When I saw the first picture, I thought you had a Jurassic Park situation on your hands. That might actually be more fun, now that I think about it.

Much more fun. And less likely the Tyrannosaurus would chew his way into our house and barn.

But she’s so cute. Our local squirrels are very well behaved but we have problems with the garden dormouse (lérot in french) which are really cute too but noisy and destructive!

She’s cute but we’ve had to seal up numerous holes in our house and barn and evict a litter of her babies. Not fun.

So sorry.
I thought they were raccoon prints till I read.

We have raccoons at night and they’re always welcome as they don’t try to move in with us.

I have a new young raccoon showing up every night. I like that one, one with a “perfect” raccoon tail, and one without a tail (looks like a teddy bear).

They’re so funny to watch. I love them.

Maybe it’s not the same red squirrel as the ms. from the past….
Otherwise, all I can say is that her time away was too good to last.

With my luck it’s her evil cousin.

I spent half an hour Saturday afternoon following tracks in the snow through our new property, trying to figure out what creature they belong to. Seeing your post, probably a squirrel – though there were other tracks I wasn’t able to identify yet.

Just put up a row of bird feeders… you’ll have all kinds of visitors.
