.
Next to one of my husband’s favorite summertime flea markets there was an old farmhouse.
.

.
Which was turned into a family restaurant…
.

.
Which went downhill over the years and became a rough and tumble biker bar called the Montsweag Roadhouse.
Now? It’s undergone another transformation and has become the Montsweag Farmhouse restaurant.
.

.
Its a nice place to stop for a drink when you’re cruising up (or down as the case may be) Route 1.
.

.
We’ve had quite a few meals here but never know what to expect. Sometimes it’s good, other times not. On this particular day I started with an interesting cocktail.
.

.
The apple barn spritz.
.

.
For lunch? An anemic Caesar salad for me and a horrible bowl of French Onion soup the husband ending up sending back.
.

.
He switched to the mussels which he didn’t really enjoy either.
Bean sprouts on mussels? Just.. no.
.

.
I moved on to a very tart cranberry margarita…
.

.
And the vegetable risotto with sautéed garlic greens which was divine.
.

.
Rich, creamy and very flavorful.
.

.
The husband ended with a really nice blueberry crumble for dessert… and the fact that I tried to cut through the ramekin thinking it was a crust speaks to how potent my drinks were.
.

.
In case you’re wondering where the word Montsweag originated.
It’s Maine. We have lots of Native American names.
.
This post was such a great way to start my day! I love the history of the farmhouse and the amazing offerings!

It’s a nice place, shame the food is hit or miss.

Oh, well the cocktails looked good. Sorry the French onion soup and mussels weren’t up to par. Those are micro greens not bean sprouts, either radish, arugula, peas etc. But I agree, they don’t belong on seafood, not mussels-anyway. I’m starting to realize your hubs orders what I’d order, onion soup, mussels and dessert 🤔. Also, I looked at the picture and thought the ramekin was crust too, and I’m only drinking coffee, lol.

Micro green? Which is what… an underdeveloped green? That’s sprout to me. Whatever we call them.. they were simply annoying and in the way here. 🌱
And my husband is a creature of habit, he rarely ventures for something new when eating out.

Micro greens are mini versions of whatever….like arugula, peas, radish. But definitely don’t belong on that certain dish for sure, lol. Yes I’m starting to see your hubs is just that, so now I wonder if I’m the same way? Lol

I have my favorites as well but when I go out I like to try new things. Dishes I wouldn’t make at home.

I am with you – Bean Sprouts go together with mussels about as much as ketchup pairs with Lobster tails (which in your area is sacrilegious and a felony, I presume?)

If it’s not, it should be.

A Caesar salad and French Onion soup is often what we’ll start with. For us, if they go badly it is usually a sign the main course goes poorly as well.

You would giggle if your waiter's name was Cale wouldn't you? I am just thinking about you hearing "Hi my name is Cale and I'll…..ma'am? Ma'am ? Do you need help getting up off the floor? DOES ANYONE KNOW THE HEIMLICH????"

I don’t think I’ve ever lived in a state without lots of Native American names!

Your risotto does look delicious!
I thought the ramakin was part of the dessert too, so you get a pass. 🙂
