.
It’s Japanese Iris season at Casa River and I couldn’t be happier.
.

.
While I’ve never been a fan of the fleshy full size irises that always hump their monstrous rhizome roots out of the ground… I adore their smaller less arrogant cousins.
.

.
Daintier, more delicate and frankly less look at me darling, aren’t I gawgous!… they’re a lovely pop of perennial purple.
.

.
Number two rhododendron is now in full bloom though not nearly as full as it’s neighbor. Why this should be is a question that stumps gardeners everywhere. Same soil, same sun exposure yet one is always bigger and better. Personally I think Mother Nature just likes to keep us guessing.
And if you’re wondering what the woodchucks have been chewing this week ?
.

.
The toothy little buggers are eating marigolds!.
Marigolds!
The plant so disgusting no one will eat them. I don’t even like the silly things but have been putting them in my pots on the barn porch simply for the woodchuck gag factor. I thought they’d be safe.
I was wrong.
Very wrong.
.
Well, it seems that woodchucks will eat anything, lol. I’m so jelly of your garden, I’m still struggling with my grass and getting it to go green and lush. It still crunches but not as bad, only now I also have weeds….FML.

I battle weeds in my garden beds but if they’re in the lawn… and green… we just now then and hope they blend.

Some critter that leaves a slimy trail is munching on my marigolds 🙄

Slugs are nasty little buggers. Put a half can of beer on its side near your flowers at night, they can’t resist it.

So the slug will…. take a slug. Not sure if that’s Aussie slang only…

One slug only and they then croak. Beer overdose wouldn’t be a bad way to go….

Beautiful! Have no idea why some plants grow effortlessly while their counterparts next door are on the struggle bus. I guess they are more like us than we know…LOL! Marigolds are supposed to be a good companion plant to keep harmful pests away. The woodchucks did not get the memo, apparently! Or maybe marigolds only keep away 6 legged pests,

Eating the marigolds… or preparing an ofrenda?

They’ll be celebrating their own death day if they keep this up.

Maybe the rhod’is take turns at letting each other shine? We might not understand vegetation’s intelligence, or language, but I’m sure they have it. I tried to communicate with them once during meditation in my back yard (yes, nutty I know) and heard a sort of humming chord. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWOqeyPIVRo

The marigolds look less eaten and more stomped on. Maybe the woodchucks are sending you a message: “Get this shit outta here and plant something palatable!”

They only eat the leaves. You’d think the blooms would be tastier…

Yep, you and Tara would get along swimmingly.

Your irises and your Rhododendrum’s, are to die for!
