.
The little nibblers are on the move and nibbling everything.
.

.
They love carrots and lettuce and broccoli and apples.
.

.
They also love our back deck.
.

.
Unfortunately they love it a little too much.
.

.
How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
.

.
Too much!
.

.
🥴

Better spray your deck with woodchuck repellent, if there is such a thing. Otherwise, I could send you some pix of my face (to tack to your deck) which would serve the same purpose, but you’re probably not that desperate!

There’s no such thing. I’ve tried it all. When they want to munch, they munch through anything.

You need to adopt my cat destruction attitude: It the Universe’s way of saying you should consider remodeling or replacing.
(note: I never get as far as replacing, only as far as accepting the destruction)
When I worked in offices, I also justified cat destruction with “well, it’s their home too and they’re there more than I am.”

The annoying part is, we ARE replacing the decking but planned on keeping the railings.

Maybe you’re not feeding them enough. Or they just need a toothpick…

Not enough? They’re the best fed woodchucks in the state!

So cute…but yikes! They are going to eat you out of house and home (and eat your home).

Damn. That’s not a good place to be nibbling.

I didn’t think so either….

Oh those darn chuckers! I hear they don’t like quinine, which you can find in tonic water. Maybe spray it on your railing and see if it helps, unless you’ve tried that already…🤔.

I’ve tried everything else… couldn’t hurt.

When horses start nibbling their stalls, it sometimes helps to give them hanging things to distract them, things they can bounce around on a rope. Just throwing out an idea, Another idea might be to throw out pieces of 2×4 with the food. Let them chew on the lawn instead of on the deck.

They’ve got an entire wood shed full of birch, oak and maple to munch!

But is the shed easily available?

Absolutely. They hang out in it all day long and have dug a tunnel to the little room next door. It’s right near their buffet.

I guess they are picky nibblers. I would still try the 2x4s.

Almost makes you yearn for the red squirrel, huh?

Unfortunately, knowing nothing about Woodchucks, I cannot share advice. At least they are cute.
