What is it with men and motors?
For my husband the older the better, so he was fascinated to see these vintage ( read, old as dirt) machines up and running.
.

.
His favorite?
The double log splitter.
.

.
I swear he could have stood there all day and listened to it belch purr.
.
.
Ditto the corn sprayer…
.

.
And the shingle cutter.
.

.
Machine or no, that’s a lot of work.
.

.
He also got a large kick out of this relic on the right.
.

.
An early self propelled lawn mower. Christ, it would have to be… it probably weighed 300 lbs.
.
I thought “Ditto” was “Dino” They look a little bit alike.

I think my husband might need a little oil as well…

I was more fascinated by “old as dirt” machines when I was young — like a romance which became quaint and platonic. Ain’t that ironic?

So other than taking pictures of the hubs fascinated by these old ass machines, what did you enjoy? lol.

I dunno…I have zero interest in motors or most things mechanical. I’d rather tag along with you and look at the animals.

Husband loves the critters as well, which is good because I can only take so much engine belching.

I have no idea. He’s not a gear head, I think it’s more the old farm tool appeal…

The scary part for you is that you actually have enough property to house these things. You could get home one day and find that your lawns have been turned into a sort of permanent Freyburg Fair, minus the farm animals! Be vigilant, Rivergirl…

Yeah, if that happens? I’m definitely getting a cow…. or 12.

I like them because they’re simple. It helps to understand basic engines, because they’re so complex nowadays. If you were stuck in the wilderness you could fashion one of these, but not a modern device.

That may be the appeal for my husband as well…
