Taking the cat for a walk. Or rather, a roll.

.

We have almost 3 acres of carefully tended mown lawn. So naturally when I take Lord Dudley Mountcatten outside, he heads straight for the barren patch of dirt under our bird feeders.

.

.

Yes, the bird viewing is up close and personal there…

.

.

But the main reason is he likes to roll.

.

.

The birds eat there. As do the woodchucks, the raccoons, the ducks, the fox and the deer.

.

.

So many good stinky smells in which to cover himself.

.

.

Sigh.

🥴

  1. Gail refuses to let out cats out of the house, she is scared something will happen to them. I don’t agree, but who am I? Her fear is her fear.
But our cat Smoky, now deceased, wss alway on the wztch for sn open door he could escape through. And all he wanted to do when he got outside was roll on the cement driveway. He would be in ecstasy when he succeeded, and I would get shit for letting him stsy outside, but I figured if he could escspe her watchful eyes, he deserved his reward. Once he was finished rolling he would walk calmly back into the house with a big grin on his face. I vould not help but let him get a full roll.

    1. This is the first time we haven’t let a cat have free range. But we lost one to the road a few years back and it was so awful I just can’t risk it. Dudley doesn’t mind the leash so we both win. He rolls , and I know he’s safe.

  2. At least he’s not a dog and is self-cleaning. One of the more interesting articles I read recently explained why dogs stink and cats don’t. Dogs are apex predators/ pack animals: they don’t worry about being hunted and the more they stink the easier it is to find each other. Cats are mesopredators; if they can’t be detected by smell, they’re more effective at hiding and hunting. But maybe his lordship thinks he’s an apex predator.

  3. That’s quite an assortment of bird feeders – how to you keep them filled up? Are you like seven foot nine inches tall!? Inquiring minds want to know (of course you can tell those minds to mind their own beeswax!)

  4. Yep, they roll around at will no matter how clean they are. It’s because they are either hot or marking their territory. So his Lordship is making sure them birds, chucks, deer and every other animal knows, he’s king f the castle, lol.
