Closer inspection revealed a line of sparrows…

I’m going out on a limb here, but this abomination is almost as awful as Spam.

I tried very hard to talk my husband into throwing this into the truck on a recent trip to Tractor Supply, but at $230 he squawked.
Which is something this chicken clearly isn’t doing anymore.

Bologna cake was something one of my aunts decided to make for my second baby shower and let me tell you, why southerners like this so much is beyond me. It was horrible not to mention heart clogging I’m sure, but my aunts, some of my uncles and even my mom seemed to enjoy it, yuck! Hey did the hubs ask you if he could purchase that new fangled delivery buggy? If not, you should go back to Tractor Supply to buy your skeleton Rooster/Chicken thingy….lol. Surprise him with it and say it goes really well in front of the Barn Mahal.

That is not baby shower food!
Calling it food is even a stretch…

The bologna cake would make a great addition to the junk food banquet I’ve had in mind ever since I saw the recipe for Ritz mock apple pie on the back of a cracker box decades ago. But is the cake a dessert, entree, main course, or appetizer? Or is it so versatile I can serve it any time?

Doesn’t matter what it is… I can’t conceive of anyone wanting to serve it at all.
Blech!

That’s the whole point! An entire meal of “foods” you normally wouldn’t even think of eating. Maybe that’s why I still haven’t done it.

Definitely appetizer!
I always wanted to try mock apple pie (my fam ate a LOT of Ritz). If you need more recipe inspirations, look up the Charles Phoenix website. I think that’s where I learned about Spam cake (dessert – can’t taste the spam at all).

If I ever get around to making the pie, I’ll be sure to write about it. This is a totally different genre from foods that sound weird but are great – like chocolate potato cake, which I found in a 1930s edition of Joy of Cooking, or rutabaga spice cake, which I got from the Ontario Rutabaga Council.

I’m old enough to remember when the pie was seemingly popular, despite no one I know ever having it. It was easier to make real apple pie!

But the ritz pie tastes just like apple pie

“Just like apple pie” in the way various wild meats “taste like chicken”?

When we moved from California to Arizona, my cat who was indoor/outdoor had to be inside only. I did buy a harness and leash and thought that would be a solution, but she got frightened and pulled out of it! I opened all the doors and she ran back inside, but I’m too afraid to try it again. Does your cat enjoy being outside with the leash and harness?

He does. We rescued him from a shelter and he’s always been timid. We kept him indoors at first because we lost our last cat to the road and I was afraid he’d get scared and run. He took a little time adjusting to the harness, and yes he slipped out of it a time or two…. but now he paws at the drawer where it’s kept and asks to go for a walk. I’ve never leashed a cat before this and while it feels odd, at least I know he’s safe.

That is so interesting. Our cat is from a shelter too and is a fraidy cat. I would sit outside with Olive on my lap in the harness but there was a loud noise and she bolted. Instead I’ve bought her a patch of grass that she lies on and looks out the sliding glass door.

Bologna cake is something I have never encountered before and hope to never encounter again! That rooster skeleton cracks me up. Love all the skeletonized critters being sold as Halloween decor.
