Nice surprises.

.

Over Christmas, our neighbors took a cruise on that gigantic new floating city, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas. It’s the largest cruise ship in the world and sounds like my idea of Hell, but to each their own.

While they were away? I had cat duty.

.

.

And drove down their long driveway every day to their house in the woods.

.

.

Sometimes with company, which is always a nice surprise.

The nicer surprise?

The thank you gift she brought home for me a week later.

.

.

Oh my lord!

Have you ever tried these?

.

.

The banana was to die for. Rich, moist and perfectly rummy. I had one slice, and then shamefully devoured half the cake with a glass of cold milk.

Dinner? Who needs it.

The cake was so amazing I had to research where I could purchase another. I hoped it wouldn’t involve taking a cruise… but honestly, I’d be tempted.

From the website:

….main claim to fame is its rum cakes, which are baked in Jamaica, Barbados and the Bahamas and employs machinery that ensures long shelf lives without using refrigeration or preservatives. “We still make the cake the same way it was made years ago,” says Hamaty-Simmonds, “which includes generous portions of Tortuga Rum from the Caribbean. You have to taste it!”

Upon further sleuthing, thank you Jeff Bezos…

I shall be ordering one from Amazon today.

My third nice surprise? A green plant I’ve had in our living room for over 5 years just decided to bloom.

.

.

With weird and wonderfully quirky little orange flowers.

.

.

How bizarre is that!

😊

  1. We have two Tortuga rum cakes in our freezer. The best way to get one is to go to Jamaica. That way you get both cakes and time in Jamaica! The Husband grabbed them at the airport, but then stuck them in the freezer and forgot about them.
Cool flower. Two Christmases ago I had a spare short string of white holiday lights. I wrapped them around our lime plant in the sunroom, which we’ve had for maybe 18 years and has given us a grand total of about 3 green limes. Well, ever since I put that string of non-LED lights on there, it’s woken up. We have 4 limes right now! BUT, they’re yellow, so turns out it was a lemon tree after all! (Or maybe it’s like peppers, where a red pepper is really just a green pepper that’s been left on the plant long enough to turn red?)

  2. The deer, the cake and the plant – nice way to start my morning. I lived in the Bahamas and I never came across that cake, I have to put in an Amazon order today I may just add that to the list.

      1. I agree. I have also heard from folks who took a cruise that it is nothing like the commercials/brochures. It is very crowded, the pools are always jammed, the Cabins are dirty, and the kids are out of control. Not for me.

  3. “Be my guest, you got nothin’ to lose/Won’t you let me take you on a sea cruise?” That’s the only sea cruise for me. Frankie Ford on YouTube. (It should be noted that the song is by Huey “Piano” Smith, with Ford’s voice dubbed over it – but I think that improved it.)

  4. I love the plant; I think it’s a Goldfish or Guppy plant. Perhaps one and the same.

Girl, I’m with you on the Cruise thing; sounds like hell to me too, but the cake sounds/looks delicious!

  5. I’m quite familiar with those cakes and I’ll be heading to Barbados again shortly! They give out free samples where you can buy them at the airport (Departures area) in case you haven’t already bought them to take home😁. Nice goldfish plant! Mine has only given me 2 little fishies so far.
