.
The barn porch rotted wood replacement project continues.
.

.
Or rather, it continued without me noticing and is now complete.
.

.
(Yes, the left hand post still dips… but that’s a frost heaving, ever shifting Maine ground problem.)
And while my husband used similarly weathered boards…
.

.
They still don’t match the existing and stick out like a sore thumb because he refused to replace the entire length of the boards like I suggested.
.

.
This anomaly doesn’t bother my husband, but will drive me nuts for years to come.
And did you happen to notice anything else amiss on the porch?
.

.
Perhaps the furniture that I had recovered a few years back at a rather large expense?
.

.
A cushion is missing.
As in… gone.
We noticed the other chair cushion had been torn, or more precisely… chewed. And there was stuffing blowing here and there around the bottom of the barn so as crazy as it sounds, we think it was stolen.
By the critters.
Most likely the by Momma chuck who nests and has babies under there every year.
Ordinarily this would piss me off to no end, but I’ve been wanting to replace this set for some time so now seems as good a time as any.
😊
.
I too have had to learn that aesthetics do not matter to everyone in the household… 🤪
I discovered my carefully planted herb pots knocked over this morning in order to access the hanging strawberry plant belonging to my daughter. And the sole strawberry she was going to harvest today and eat? Missing.
It’s the critters. There’s nothing you can do.

I’ve adjusted my gardening, changed my potted plants, removed my decorative baskets … but seat cushions? Damn. I didn’t think I had to strap those down.
😡

There is always so much to learn 😀 😀 😀

He could have replaced the entire boards – but then would you have complained because they didn’t match those on each side? Or, as Roseanne Roseannadanna would say, “Well, Jane, it just goes to show you, it’s always something — if it’s not one thing, it’s another.”
Maybe you can just rub a little dirt on them to make them darker.

They wouldn’t have matched the old, no. But aesthetically the flow would have been better with full length boards. This is such a square, chopped up visual, it draws the eye to the replaced section.
But SNL was right, it’s always something.

You have to take them where you find them.
Or lose them in this case…

You could always stain the deck to get the color matching better.
Or your husband could…

I’ve suggested that multiple times. He prefers the natural rustic look.

Or paint the deck.

He’d never go for that.

I never heard of such a thing!!! A ground hog stealing cushions!!!! How interesting!! I bet her little ones have a nice soft comfy bed. ♥
I have to keep my porch cushions inside since I have two dogs that love to use them as chew toys.

It’s a first, even for us.

Critters seem to be doing strange things here too. Makes me wonder what is going on. I have never had problems with my veggie garden plants being eaten, and I have gardened in the same place for almost 50 years now.

Once the woodchucks find a garden? Its lights out for flowers and veggies.

I just bought a huge supply of the inexpensive (cheap) wire trash cans to cover everything until it gets big enough to not be interesting.

I tried that once, they knocked it over and nibbled the plant to a nub.

Oh my!!!! I’ve been expecting that, but so far it hasn’t happened.

A little thief on the loose–Tie those cushions to the chair next time… The porch looks just fine. If you don’t like the board, paint a pattern on them to make them look like a set 😀 Or may be–just don’t look at it 😀

The cushions WERE tied on! Clearly, she was determined.

My ex-stepfather’s current wife cheered every time someone broke a dish because she hated that particular set and wanted an excuse to buy a new one.

She needed a woodchuck.

Nice of momma chuck to help with your shopping.

I’ve been thinking about replacing it. She certainly moved things along.

Wait a second. Are you “Momma Chuck”?!
Those mismatched boards drive me bonkers just looking at the photo. I couldn’t live with that.

I am not Momma Chuck. Though lately, I do resemble her. Gravity is a fickle bitch.
And yes, those boards will drive me nuts for years to come…

Too bad they’re not closer to the back of the deck. You could move furniture over them.

I know.
Of all the places, it had to rot right there.
