.
A few warm days was all it took for our apple trees to pop out in riotous bloom. I’ll spare you the pictures of the rest, but this beauty by the road deserves a shout out.
.

.
It’s so large now it obscures the man cave/Barn Mahal and part of the shed.
.

.
I wish WordPress had smell-o-vision because it’s heavenly in person.
.

.
But it’s also filled with bees so be careful where you sniff.
.

.
The pictures don’t really do it justice, but trust me. It’s lovely.
.

.
And I have to say I wasn’t holding out much hope for our flowering cherry trees. The deer destroyed the other three we planted but this one held on…
.

.
It’s much smaller and not as full as it should be with a big empty hole on the right side…
.

.
But it’s still alive and blooming.
.

.
So I’m calling that a win.
.

.

Soooooop beautiful!!
I was wondering about the smell just as I got to the line about it. I really miss my night jasmine & citrus blossoms!!
Why not put a removable barrier around the cherry tree? What do it’s blossoms smell like?

We have six apple trees and the scent is beyond heavenly. I just love it. Sadly, the cherry doesn’t have much to offer the nose. But the blossoms are striking. Or will be if it’s allowed to grow.

Put an electrified fence around the cherry tree to keep the deer away.

I should get one last picking of my son’s cherry tree this year before he moves. Our apple tree only does well of we allow it to grow unfettered – if we keep it at picking height, there isn’t enough air movement (due to other nearby big trees) to prevent mildew. When it can reach for the sky, it does okay.
It seems blooms need bright colors or great smells to attract pollinators. Some of the best-smelling flowering crabapples around here are the plain white ones.

We have two huge old growth apple trees in our backyard. Think they were planted when our house was built, so 1974. We had them professionally pruned a few years back and haven’t had a good fruit harvest since.

They needed it, the weight of the heavy branches had some of them swooping toward the ground and breaking off. But I didn’t think it would take them this long to recover…
