Maine events.

.

I had a good chuckle at some local Maine events recently.

Whoopie pies are a thing up here. They come in numerous flavors, everyone makes them and everyone loves them. (Except my husband, for reasons I’ve never understood. They’re delightful) And while a wine pairing with whoopies might seem strange to some, it’s perfectly logical to us.

Cocktails? Yes.

Fried bugs? No.

I’d have to be very, very happy to reach for those.

Can’t believe I missed this one!

Maine has very few rabbits left in the wild and there are none in my area. I would totally have eaten pastries and cuddled bunnies!

  1. That’s very sad about the bunnies. I know in NH so much wildlife has come back in the last 100 years as trees grow back (clear cut for farming in the 17-1800s). I hope the bunnies return like the turkeys and the bobcats.

  2. Whoopie pies were a thing when we visited friends in PA twenty years ago. I tried one; couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. A squishy Oreo.

My sister was given a gift box of fried insects about 65 years ago. There was a little key (like a Whitman’s Sampler) to ID the bugs.

The rabbits here are so bold they don’t move when I walk out the back door. One calmly ate a milkweed 3 feet from me yesterday as I sat on the porch. I could probably step over them on the way to the clothesline if I didn’t choose to walk around them.

  3. I have a friend who had a bunny for years – he hopped around the house freely and ended up gnawing all the electric cables. Cost my friend a fortune but boy was he well loved. Aren’t lobsters considered giant cockroaches?
