.
Time to warm up your memory banks and answer a question.
.

.
My husband and I were married in 1984. We lived in a cheap, fully furnished rental house off base and basically had nothing to our names but the clothes on our back.
So naturally the first thing we did was buy a sexy new sports car.
.

.
A Nissan 280ZX.
Brother, we were styling.
It had removable T Tops which were flashy, but honestly a pain in the *ss as they took up all the room in the tiny hatch space in back. Open roof and grocery shopping at the same time? Not happening.
.

.
But we looked good, so who cared?
I tried searching old photo albums for a picture of us in or beside the car but this is the only one I could find.
.

.
Car butt to the right.
A skinny, big haired ‘80’s me and the hubs on our way to a wedding on the left.
I do love me a man in uniform.
❤️
Your turn.
What were you driving in 1984?
.
I was living in the city (Atlanta) and didn’t own a car. I took public transportation everywhere I couldn’t walk. It was great.

Big city living doesn’t lend itself to owning a car.
Agreed.

It was the 80’s. Big hair was in.
I didn’t remember the Shadow, so I looked it up.
Still don’t remember it.

I wasn’t driving anything of my own in 1984, aside from my dad’s Ford Thunderbird on a rare occasion. Your hair!! Love the car too. 🙂

Can’t go wrong with a T Bird.
As for the hair, it was the 80’s.

Maybe a Schwinn?

No. I had nothing to ride on at that age. Although I may have had my scooter at 8. Otherwise my scooter was at 9.

I was in Paris working as an au pair. Won some kind of grant to forestall entry to working life and was accepted at the Sorbonne as a student. I walked everywhere and took the metro. I took care of identical twins who lived in a beautiful apt. and I had full reign of a very small room at the top of an apt building which was big enough to sleep in. My roommate across the hall helped me with homework as she was studying to be a teacher. The family told me I could eat anytime I was hungry from their refridg but they seemed to think I overextended myself on their cheese plate. It was an interesting year! Your hair, remember those times!

I think we had a Buick Skyhawk and a Ford Escort. Basic transportation to navigate both city and suburban traffic.

My husband had two Escorts for long commuting. They were cheap to run and reliable. Matter of fact both of them rusted out from underneath him long before the engines or trannies died.

Nothing – I don’t drive. 1984? Still living in NYC – subway and busses for me.

The only wise choice for NYC. My mother never even learned to drive until she married and moved to Jersey… at nearly 35 years old.

I am envious of people who can drive but since I am neither suicidal or homicidal I never actively pursued it. (It wasn’t until I was in my early 30’s and my perceptual psychology teacher advised me to never drive did I get to know that I wasn’t clumsy I just had very limited depth perception. For example – I cannot perceive a curve in the road until I’m in it and a few feet away from crashing into a guard rail.)

On behalf of all drivers, thank you for not getting behind a wheel.

A 10-speed Huffy.
I loved the 280ZX, though. One of my earliest dream cars! Was it still a Datsun in 1984?
I understand why moonroofs took the place of T-roofs now.

It was still a Datsun. Think they switched to Nissan in ‘86 with the 300Z.

300Z was my dad’s fantasy car but he got a crap B210 instead. Gawd, that car was shit! MANY years later he finally got a 380.

Probably a Subaru station wagon! Inexpensive and built to stay that way!

Great cars. Though my ‘25 Forester certainly wasn’t cheap.

I only had my license for about a year (driver training as school was cut as a response to tax issues, parents wouldn’t pay or teach me, so I was just shy of 20 when I finally got my license)… I drove my parent’s ugly ass brown 1980 Ford Pinto stationwagon.

EVERYONE teased me because the risk of 🔥🔥🔥🔥 in a crash was big news. I always wanted to redo the fake wood side panels in red plaid, to match a hat that I always wore, and was devastated when my parents sold the car without telling me (I would have paid them more than the $75 they got).

$75 for a car.
It’s hard to even imagine that today…
