I have a friend ( Yes, I really do have them. They exist! And not just in my mind, so there.) who is quite crafty, artistic and creative. This extends to her holiday decorating and every year she has a different Christmas tree.
And when I say different?
I mean different.
One year, it was made of driftwood.
The next? Pine cones.
Then giant free floating balls.
Which aren’t usually the balls one wants to have, but these were pretty cool.
Some years there are normal trees…
Which are almost disappointing.
But then we’re back to fabulously odd.
And the next year there’s a canopy tree hovering over your head.
One season it was made from recycled CD’s and put out the light of 100 suns.
(Seriously, this thing could have powered a small town.)
When you visit my friend’s house at Christmas, you never know what you’ll get… which is kind of a hoot.
So we went over last weekend and saw the 2018 version.
To which my reaction was…. meh.
Slightly Seussian with the bare branch and one green ball, but not the most inspirational.
Oh well, there’s always next year.
I think the last person who brought home a Christmas tree like that last one got called a Blockhead…

Ha! I doubt her husband would dare call her that….

I kind of like the last one. A lot less crap to put away when Christmas is over.

You have a point. One green ball won’t take long to pack…

Your friend is so talented. They’re all so creatively done, even the “regular” ones.

That’s not a single branch….it’s a forest! And I love it!! Wish I had a spot to do that in…..

How wonderful! I’m guessing that pine cone one took a bit of advance planning, gathering, etc.
I like this year’s treescape ~> maybe you need to go back after nightfall and see what you think. 😀

They’re all planned out months before installation.
And yes, maybe this years looks better at night.

My fave is the CD one, I’m going to try a smaller version for my office next year.

Just remember to wear a tank top when you sit next to it. That thing threw some powerful heat!

THIS IS AWESOME! (I’m kinda digging her 2018 spin, too!) It’s right up there with what Babs (mom) does every year – making a new ‘star’ for her tree topper. This year is Meghan Markle.

It’s fun. The tree sets the theme for all the house decorations that year, which means she has a huge basement full of different colors and themes waiting for their turn!

Glad Meghan made the cut.

I love them all. It makes the holiday more fun to visit someone never knowing what their version of a Christmas tree will be this year. Your friend does it well – each version is a bit offbeat but still manages to incorporate the spirit of the tree and the festiveness of the season. I agree, the “normal” trees must be somewhat boring in comparison.

Photos don’t really do them justice. The canopy tree was actually the best but it loses a lot through the camera lens…

I didn’t put one up this year since we’re leaving early January. But I do have a Charlie Brown on my dining room table…

What’s your friends day job? Quite artistic apart from this year’s obviously.

Sounds like my kind of friend. I love the random, slightly rabid looking squirrel in one of the trees.

So did I! One should always have a slightly psychotic rodent lurking in their tree…..

Consistently weird is a wonderful quality. I always do admire oddness 🙂 Love the tree overhead! Truly!

In person, the canopy tree was the best. It felt like you were sitting in a magical forest. Very hard to photograph though….
