.
Our old doe surprised us recently. She’s been with us for a long time, and every year? She has young.
She was pregnant so often, that’s actually what we call her. Pregnant.
Original? No.
But she didn’t look like a Betty, so go with it.
This year she’s been moving more slowly and looks quite thin. It’s September and we hadn’t seen her with any fawns so we figured that time of her life had passed.
Until yesterday….
.
.
When we looked out and saw her bringing a baby out of the field.
.
.
It’s late in the year to have such a young spotted fawn.
.
.
And to be honest, something about this baby looked…. off.
.
.
At first I couldn’t put my finger on it.
.
.
And then I thought…
.
.
That little sucker just looks….
.
.
Mean.
.
.
Look at this last picture and tell me I’m wrong.
.
.
Go on, I dare you.
Hey, that’s profiling and it’s wrong…lol. Maybe it’s because it has colored eyes, blue or green that gives it that out of the ordinary look. But you’ll know for sure if on Halloween it shows up to soap your windows, stick it’s tongue out at you and run back into the woods….just sayin’.

Come on, you have to admit this Bambi is a little… off.

Odd eyes, I agree.
As much as I love dogs, whenever I see a blue-eyed husky, I can’t helping thinking, “Danger!” And I have blue eyes myself! But in some animals, it just looks…wrong.

It’s not just the eyes on this one. The whole face and demeanor is just…. off.

You’re right. That fawn’s got an RBF if I ever saw one.

Thank you.
I shall start picking extra apples in case things go south.

His eyes are different. I’d have to see him on video to see what else strikes me.
We were always glad when our old doe of the local woods (we called her LameDeer), the one with the bent injured foreleg would still appear trailing a fawn or two. Hopping around on three legs, it was hard to outrun an amorous buck, I guess. Every spring, I was happy to see she made it through another winter.

We had a doe like that for years as well. Every winter I worried she wouldn’t make it, and every spring she’d be there. They’re probably a lot tougher than I think.
