.
It took almost 3 weeks, but our new boy is settling in nicely and less skittish every day.
.
.
Loud noises like the snow plow still send him under the bed … and the jury is still out on exterior wonders. He spied wild turkeys in the backyard the other day and growled from under the couch for 5 minutes straight.
.
.
But he’s learning to trust us and coming out of his shell. Toys help, and I’ve retrieved that fuzzy ball from under the furniture enough times to require another visit to the orthopedist.
I think it’s safe to say I’m in love.
.
.
Even my girlfriend recognized how much having a little guy around the house again means and sent a congratulations card.
.
.
Dudley loves his squeaky mouse, but not when we wave the stick…. so I rigged up a do it yourself playground.
.
.
.
I’m sure he’s grateful, though he doesn’t look it.
It should be noted that while I love dogs and all their slobbering appreciation? There’s something about the utter disdain cats show their humans which speaks to me.
.
.
They always look so utterly bored.

That’s part of their charm.

They understand the relationship. They are in charge.

And it didn’t take him long to figure that out.

LOL. I love the last picture. Yes, cats do have a way of letting people know that they want to be petted.

On their terms only of course.

I’ve taught Louie to ‘get the kitty’ . Keep in mind Louie is a 10lb Chiweenie. Sprint? is a 23lb long hair sold black mass of fur.
I should tape that sometime. Not only do they fight like they are two of the same species? I find Louie cuddled up next to the cat getting a bath and lovin’ it.

Oh, you should tape it. Too cute!

ALL pets train their owners to respond to THEM!

But cats are delightfully shifty with the process….

Remember, you are not the boss. They are. You just pay the rent and the groceries. Lol! Anyways, he is a handsome little dude.

I know. I’m a sucker for kitty punishment.

You’ve done such a wonderful job of nurturing Dudley, I bet if you set your mind to it, you could take in, and bond with, Ms. Red Squirrel. Can’t you just picture her and Dudley enriching your life together?

I don’t find that the least bit amusing.

I’ve been a cat person my whole life. The “flaws” people always point out I find charming.

Ditto. Dog people always say you can’t train a cat. I say, exactly!

I adore Dudley! I’ve been ruled by cats in the past. None recently, but I remedy that by cat sitting for neighbors.
But what really caught my eye? The flying pig on the fireplace hearth! Sticking it’s tongue out! What’s the story on that beauty?

It was purchased at an antique auction 25 years ago, for way too much money.

Dogs may be more fun, but they’re too much hassle to care for (You may as well have a child, gasp!). Cats it is!
I see Dudley is working on the same scowl Ody often gives me when I invade his space, which would be the entire house….

He tolerates us, as is his right.

Dogs offer unconditional love. Cats offer conditional love. I’m fine with either.
Only 2 of my (5) cats are okay with loud sounds. I think that’s the same # that like when I make the toys move, vs propping the sticks into chair cushions. Ditto for those that like laser pointers. All but the blind one like to play with toys (and hair elastics) under the bathroom door.
I’m glad your new kid is settling in. Quite the beauty!!

Strangely enough, he’s the only cat we’ve ever had who doesn’t like paper bags or boxes. He totally ignores them.

A couple of my cats don’t care about them. Others need boxhab. Yesterday, Toonces spent hours in a box… he finds the irresistible! PCB is the paper bag fanatic.

Ours have always loved them. Dudley looks at me like, what the heck am I supposed to do with that?

Maybe he’ll pick it up later, or have some other cool quirk.
Does he like catnip? I have 2 cats who don’t react to catnip.

No camera shy pets allowed here, he’d better get used to it.
