Dudley update.

.

It took almost 3 weeks, but our new boy is settling in nicely and less skittish every day.

.

.

Loud noises like the snow plow still send him under the bed … and the jury is still out on exterior wonders. He spied wild turkeys in the backyard the other day and growled from under the couch for 5 minutes straight.

.

.

But he’s learning to trust us and coming out of his shell. Toys help, and I’ve retrieved that fuzzy ball from under the furniture enough times to require another visit to the orthopedist.

I think it’s safe to say I’m in love.

.

.

Even my girlfriend recognized how much having a little guy around the house again means and sent a congratulations card.

.

.

Dudley loves his squeaky mouse, but not when we wave the stick…. so I rigged up a do it yourself playground.

.

.

.

I’m sure he’s grateful, though he doesn’t look it.

It should be noted that while I love dogs and all their slobbering appreciation? There’s something about the utter disdain cats show their humans which speaks to me.

The Great Goat Escape …. Update.

.

Sadly, the goat is still on the loose.

.

.

Updates are posted every few days on our town’s Facebook page.

.

.

It’s become a bit of a hoot.

.

.

Apparently this goat was given to the owners a few weeks ago and as soon as they opened the pen to transfer it to their yard… it ran off. They’ve tried putting out food, luring it with other goats and even set up a warm shelter near where it’s been spotted… but nothing works. It runs from everyone who tries to catch it.

.

.

In 2020, this is what passes for hard news in my town.

Ya gotta love it.

.

All I wanted for Christmas…

.

Was for the Barn Mahal bar to be finished. Seeing that we came home and discovered its beginning framework in place in mid November….

.

.

I didn’t think that would be too much to ask. But alas, our builder didn’t agree.

Oh, he’s sent updates via text messages.

.

.

Like the layout of the rough unfinished boards on his shop floor.

I thought the 3 graduating colors would be interesting…

.

.

Until he sent the next update of those boards being sanded and glued. Bye bye color.

.

.

He assures me work is progressing steadily and that he hasn’t forgotten us, but it seems the only way I’ll be bellying up for a toddy will be like this:

.

.

Cheers!

.

They give souvenirs now.

.

My MRI was today… and after they made me strip naked and dress in scrub pants that were 3 sizes too small and double hospital johnnys that were 12 sizes too big, they did their thing on my knee.

A solid half hour of cacophony later, I got a souvenir.

.

.

I know they give you ultrasound pictures of your baby in utero, but I’m not sure I’ll be having a look at all the fluid on River’s knee reveal party anytime soon.

And yes, though I’ve gotten the swelling down with elevation and ice packs, there’s still a lot of fluid where fluid shouldn’t be.

Good news? No torn ligaments and minimal damage to my MCL.

Yay!

.

.

Bad news?

My meniscus tear is a deep root tear which is more serious, slower to heal and could require surgery.

Boo.

.

.

But I did a zoom meeting with my orthopedist when we got home and she said we’ll try to avoid that.

More ice, more exercises and a cortisone shot next Friday to speed up healing so I can do more load bearing.

Load bearing? I know I’m a bit overweight, but that seems a trifle harsh.

.

.

Real time update.

.

At 8:00 this morning I was standing tall at the orthopedist’s office.

Okay, standing is a relative term… it was more like listing 45 degrees and hopping around like a rabbit on a 3 day bender.

.

.

But you’d hop too if your right knee looked like this:

.

.

A little swollen… no?

The good news –

My xrays came back clean, no fractures, no bone spurs and no signs of arthritis.

The bad news –

The doctor thinks I tore my meniscus when I stained the deck. Fluid and swelling set in, which weakened the joint. Then the other day when I stepped off the porch I probably damaged my ACL and possibly my MCL. Not good.

There’s no way to tell for sure until I have an MRI which they couldn’t schedule until next Thursday.

So a weeks worth of ice, elevation, ibuprofen and gentle range of motion exercises.

And whining.

Don’t forget the whining.

.

.

Yes, there might be some of that kind as well.
