Scotland. Home to fine whiskey, rugged highlands, a mythical lake creature, bagpipes, my ancestors… and haggis.
(If you don’t know what haggis is, consider yourself lucky and leave it at that.)

Since the owner/bartender of our local pub is a Scot born and bred, I thought it might be fun to show up wearing a mask of my clan’s tartan the next time we drop by for a pint. Enter Amazon.
Sure enough they had one…
.
.
Though by the look of the packaging, I’m guessing it was not made anywhere near a peat bog or by Clan MacGregor.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering….
.

.
The post title is my clan’s motto in Gaelic. Royal is my race.
.
.
Well, yes.
There’s that too.
.
And now, I’m wishing to be a Scotsman. Well, TBH I’ve wished that since seeing Outlander.

I’m ashamed to admit I’m addicted to that show. And ironically our local pub owner’s nephew is the stunt man for the actor who plays Fergus.

All the finest Scottish gear is made right here in China! If that ain’t the symbol of globalization there ain’t one. “Royal is my race,” huh? Catchy.

My only real exposure to Scottish culture has been through “In a Big Country” and Sean Connery.

That’s your motto? How…. odd.

I love it! Clan McPherson has the same motto.
From Wikipedia:
Touch not the cat bot a glove. ‘Bot’ means without. … If the cat is ‘ungloved’, its claws are unsheathed. The motto serves as a warning that one should beware when the wildcat’s claws are ‘without a glove’.

Still sound advice.

Further from the Macphersons:
The motto serves as a warning that one should beware when the wildcat’s claws are ‘without a glove’. It is a reference to the historically violent nature of the clan and serves as a metaphorical warning to others that they should think twice before interfering with Macpherson business.
