.
I went grocery shopping yesterday…. and while I usually just buy what I want regardless of the cost, gazing down at the pot roast in my hand made me audibly gasp.
.

.
A quite small, unimpressive rump roast had a $36 price tag… and damned if I didn’t leave it right there.
May I just say, what the utter f*ck?
I paid $17 for a pound of 80/20 hamburger and almost fainted when I saw this…
.

.
Yes, it’s a rib roast. But so small I doubt you’d get 4 good slices. And while I used to cook them quite often… if I’m paying $25 per plate? I’ll go out to a restaurant, let someone else cook it and be served thank you very much.
Beef prices are certifiably insane right now.
And if you think it’s any better in the seafood department, think again.
.

.
Picked lobster meat is $53 a pound. Throw in a little mayonnaise and it’s $60.
And I live in Maine for Christ’s sake!
.

.
$3.99-$5.99/hamburger here.
You need to move.

Just a grocery store in Maine.

Time to start thinking about grilling those mice carcasses Lord Dudley provides? You’ll need to accumulate maybe a dozen to make a meal, but that’s what freezers are for.

We’re not that desperate… yet.

I am guessing not. All I would be thinking is “Damn, $99.00 freaking dollars”. Hard to enjoy with that on your mind.

For 100 bucks, I’m afraid it stayed on the shelf.

My wife and I are friends with a couple who live on a farm and I’m starting to see the benefit. We’ve always gotten cheap eggs from them, but they’ve also got a cow who, they tell us, is headed for “Freezerburg”.
Now if I could just convince them to get some lobsters…

To heck with friends with benefits. Friends with cows are da bomb.

That’s fucking price gouging right there. I just came back from the market and I swear the same rib roast was only $48 here for a 4.3 lb roast. And that’s a bit much for place that prides itself as the never quality beef. Because, you know we’re in Texas. But $98, seriously WTF!?

I meant to say quality beef, don’t know where that “never” came from…ugh.

I agree. Now they are just taking advantage of the hyped news. Same Rib Roast here was $32 for 5.1 lbs at save-a-lot. Same Cows.

It’s weird, because chicken and pork were on sale.

A good bottle of 1.75L Tanqueray is about $25. Great substitute.

Regular prices, Alberta, Canada, as of today: Grade AAA Ribeye roast 7.99/lb CAD. Ground beef 4.99/lb reg, or 6.99/lb lean.
Picked lobster meat — priceless, as in none available.

And it seems restaurant prices on EVERYTHING are going sky high–better be nice to The Lord for those mice he is bringing you free!! LOL

They are here as well. But from the prices at the grocery store, that’s understandable.

Lamb is $40/kilo which is about the same with your beef situation. It’s incredible!

And yet here I bought 10 beautiful lamb chops for $26. There’s no rhyme or reason to any of it.

The US actually has a lot of farm subsidies, so the prices you’ve had for a long time have actually been subsidised. I know it’s expensive, but it’s actually it’s real worth. We’ve paid too little for too long. There’s a global water crisis too, so food won’t be in major supply. Time everyone got a greenhouse and vege garden going.

We have a 75 acre organic vegetable farm across the road, I’ve got plenty of carrots. I need the pot roast to go with them.
