.
I used to go all out for the holidays. If it stood still? I decorated it… for Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter, Valentines Day etc.
My husband used to roll his eyes, but our neighbors loved it. Matter of fact… I never realized how much our neighbors loved it until recently.
.

.
As I’ve said previously, this year’s decorations have been scaled down. Wreaths on windows and doors and a festive sled.
.

.
A kissing ball.
.

.
Candles in the windows and a ( still standing! ) lighted animated reindeer.
.

.
The Barn Mahal has Santa in a plant pot…
.

.
Snowflakes in the windows and twinkling trees on the porch.
.

.
(The trees are multicolored, the snowflakes are white. But my phone apparently has a sense of humor and changes color at will. WTH?)
But even with all that I’ve done, my neighbors have repeatedly waxed nostalgic over the good old days “when you used to decorate”.
Like this year’s display is chopped liver!
.

.
I mean, really.
There’s a feline Lord backlit by candlelight. What more do they need?
.
You should have about 30 inflatables out in your yard like someone I pass on the way to work…. which when they’re all shut off in the daytime looks like the scene of a grisly North Pole massacre. Now that’s decorating!

I never could get into the yard displays… Of course, I grew up in Lubbock and El Paso where the winds kick up to about forty miles an hour, gusting to sixty. Most yard decorations end up in Oklahoma…

A lot of ours have ended up in the town across the river… hence the stakes and safety wire.

Does taking the decorations box out of the closet count ?

Sorry, no.
But I will give you points for effort.

You know what they say, you’re only as good as your last miracle.

Do they say that?
How rude.

Each year we decorate less and less. Stuff breaks and we don’t replace it, but I still insist that we are festive. It’s all in how you define it.

It’s funny, I did the exterior…. but inside it’s just the Charlie Brown tree.

Your house looks so pretty!

Thanks. It doesn’t feel like Christmas without at least a few wreaths.

When you USED to decorate? Looks like some beautiful decorating to me! What did you USED to do, that this seems lacklustre to your neighbours, I wonder????

I used to do white lights and garland on the doors and railings. Red and green lights in the shrubbery. I used to light the well house and the stone wall. Snowflake lights on the roof line. Etc. etc.

Wow…..”when you use to decorate?” So what do you call what you do now? Geez, if that’s not decorating, my lone tree and one wreath are put to shame. You gave me a good idea, those candles in each window, I think I’ll do that next year.

It’s a simple look, but I’ve always loved the candles in the windows.

Tell your neighbours you’ve been going to Xmas Decorators Anonymous. Every year from now on, a little bit less, until you are no longer addicted.

I like it. One holiday at a time.

And here I sit on 12/23 with nary a decoration in my tiny apartment. Hats off to you! I’m in a mad scramble to create a festive home for my son’s arrival …. But I’m procrastinating on WordPress. Sigh. Maybe more coffee would help….

If I don’t do it the first week of December? It doesn’t get done…

Me too – I was with my daughter’s family for an unexpected, but happy extra week after Thanksgiving. Combine that with such a short interim between Thanksgiving and Christmas and here I sit with nary a decoration up… LOL. I will get it done!

My favorite neighbor down the road used to put up a giant lit Santa, and a sign that said [Put Christ Back in Christmas!] and a sign at the driveway gate [Trespassers will be shot!]
That sort of mirrors my own Christmas spirit …

Now that’s my kind of neighbor — except my driveway sign would say TRESPASSERS WILL BE VACCINATED!

That’s the problem: you set the bar high enough and it’s hard to scale back!
