Health food stores are an interesting place to shop.

.

My husband has a weakness for health food stores. Does he eat healthy? Not unless I force him, but he loves to stroll the weird item laden aisles all the same.

.

.

Whipped cream or whipped rice? That’s a no brainer for me, but I suppose someone might buy that sorry excuse of a substitute.

.

.

I really wanted to buy this bizarre looking fruit… But the husband balked at the price. Good grief, it’s named after a hand.

.

.

If that isn’t worth a little extra scratch I don’t know what is.

.

.

He’ll bitch about high prices but then go get a ridiculously small container of freshly churned peanut butter. Probably because he knows I won’t eat it.

.

.

Worst waste of money that day? This cleverly marketed bag of dried fruit. I love kiwi, so I bought it.

.

.

They weren’t lying, it’s ugly. And completely unpeeled. Who the hell wants to eat that!

  1. All those regular things that are unavailable right now, and you can get Buddhas Hand Citron? Is that because no one else wants it? ( Mind you, it might be the best fruit-tasting fruit in the world. I doubt I will ever get a chance to try it.)

  2. Since I’ve only seen Buddha’s hand grated and used to add a little citrus zest, which you can just as easily get from a lime, I understand your husband balking at it, but if you want to get really adventurous I bet that place carries durian.

  3. No to the rice-based cream substitute. A whipped avocado could suffice and would be more environmentally friendly. As for the kiwifruit, I doubt I’d go for the dried, but when fresh the skin isn’t as bad as you’d think. Seasonally fresh is best always – unless in a severe climate where preserving for the lean season is essential.

  4. Upcycled kiwi – why?? Plus the word upcycled isn’t normally linked to food, furniture and clothes yes, but not food – how strange! Love the peanut butter machine though, I’ve never seen one of those before. Really interesting post – thanks for sharing 🤗
