Their beers don’t bite.

.

I am an extremely happy camper and the reason is beer.

.

.

We’ve found a delightful new brewery that doesn’t overload their brew with hops, hence the title.

The latest trend in Maine microbrews is IPA’s. Hoppy, bitter, double and triple IPA’s… which is fine, unless you’re me and don’t like them. I can’t tell you how many tasting rooms we’ve visited where every single beer on tap is hop forward.

Enter Olive Pit Brewing… a small, dog friendly, woman owned operation whose main goal is offering creative options.

I should have flipped that over and photographed the other side… but I was too busy sampling. Please note there was a margarita inspired beer. Be still my heart.

Yes, both those flights were mine. Don’t judge… variety is the spice of life.

And if you noticed the flight boards are dog bones?

There’s a reason.

Meet Olive, the inspiration. A rescue dog the owners adopted from down south, Olive became seriously ill shortly after moving to Maine… but $25,000 later ( no, I’m not exaggerating ) she’s a well loved and happy pup.

So the brewery welcomes dogs, inside and out. Dogs and beer. What’s not to love?

.

.

Did I mention there are beer cocktails?

.

.

You know I had to try that!

Weird, but quite tasty. And perfect for our one friend who doesn’t like beer but agreed to come because she’s a good sport.

We had a great time and definitely plan on going back.

Swag? Of course I had to buy some.

Forest green t shirt…

With appropriate tagline on the back.

They don’t bite because they’re not hoppy.

They don’t bite because the dogs are friendly.

And after tasting every single brew they offered? I can attest to the fact their product most definitely doesn’t bite taste wise either.

A few glasses for the Barn Mahal bar.

  1. Flights of beer are so much more fun than ordering a single 16 oz. beer that gets tepid (and boring) before I reach the bottom.

    But I order my flights sequentially . . . NOT simultaneously. 😀

    Just saying . . .

  2. I can’t abide super hoppy IPA and I don’t like dogs running around like idiots while their owners make excuses for them bothering me during my meal. I do, however, like women A LOT, and this place seems to have a more feminine touch as regards their beer making style. Moxie? I’ve only had it once or twice, even though you can get it here in NC. The one I’m having a problem with is the salt water beer. I would think it would retard the yeast, or wipe it out altogether. My hat’s off to these ladies for their scientific achievement, far beyond getting a bigger bag to steep their hops.
Cool, interesting post. It makes me wish I liked beer a little more.

  3. I am standing with you against the growing tide of IPAs, I don’t generally like them, and they have taken over the taps at my favorite bar. This place looks good. $25,000 on healthcare for a rescue? Darn good people, that’s for sure. I’d buy a tee shirt to help offset that.

  4. OMG! Just leave beer alone. Heineken is laughing in his grave right about now. You are welcome to do all this experimenting, just do not call it “beer”. Hey wait! Can I just refer to wine as “yeast pee” since that is pretty much all it is!

  5. Well, I don’t know what you’d make of the beer over here, but we do have thousands to choose from. I’m intrigued by the itty bitty glasses – tasting glasses? – but not the beer cocktails. It goes against nature! 😉

  6. I would love that brewery – I’mnot a tan of the hops crazy!

One of my local family run breweries used to have a huge Husky dog on site and I wanted to take him home as a body pillow!! They opened more locations and hired staff so I have ‘t seen the dog in ages.
