.
I am an extremely happy camper and the reason is beer.
.

.
We’ve found a delightful new brewery that doesn’t overload their brew with hops, hence the title.
The latest trend in Maine microbrews is IPA’s. Hoppy, bitter, double and triple IPA’s… which is fine, unless you’re me and don’t like them. I can’t tell you how many tasting rooms we’ve visited where every single beer on tap is hop forward.
Enter Olive Pit Brewing… a small, dog friendly, woman owned operation whose main goal is offering creative options.
.

.
I should have flipped that over and photographed the other side… but I was too busy sampling. Please note there was a margarita inspired beer. Be still my heart.
.

.
Yes, both those flights were mine. Don’t judge… variety is the spice of life.
And if you noticed the flight boards are dog bones?
There’s a reason.
.

.
Meet Olive, the inspiration. A rescue dog the owners adopted from down south, Olive became seriously ill shortly after moving to Maine… but $25,000 later ( no, I’m not exaggerating ) she’s a well loved and happy pup.
So the brewery welcomes dogs, inside and out. Dogs and beer. What’s not to love?
.

.
Did I mention there are beer cocktails?
.

.
You know I had to try that!
.

.
Weird, but quite tasty. And perfect for our one friend who doesn’t like beer but agreed to come because she’s a good sport.
We had a great time and definitely plan on going back.
Swag? Of course I had to buy some.
.

.
Forest green t shirt…
.

.
With appropriate tagline on the back.
They don’t bite because they’re not hoppy.
They don’t bite because the dogs are friendly.
And after tasting every single brew they offered? I can attest to the fact their product most definitely doesn’t bite taste wise either.
.

.
A few glasses for the Barn Mahal bar.
👍
.
I don’t like beer but I love the idea of a women owned brewery with female inspired products.

It’s a small place and she’s only been open for a short time but seems to be holding her own.

Flights of beer are so much more fun than ordering a single 16 oz. beer that gets tepid (and boring) before I reach the bottom.
But I order my flights sequentially . . . NOT simultaneously. 😀
Just saying . . .

Well, I was sharing with my husband… that must count for something.

Not hoppy? Dog inspired? Sounds like my kinda place! Thanks for sharing, Rivergirl.

Oh I saw a beer made with a touch of Moxie, well that sounds interesting. And a margarita inspired brew and pooch friendly, yes please!!!

Some of the beers were weird… but in a good way. And you know I had a full pour of the margarita beer.

I don’t do Beer but I would probably have gone, too. Just to check out the place. I have some dog loving friends that would love those trays (Flights?)

Everything is dog themed. I loved it.

I can’t abide super hoppy IPA and I don’t like dogs running around like idiots while their owners make excuses for them bothering me during my meal. I do, however, like women A LOT, and this place seems to have a more feminine touch as regards their beer making style. Moxie? I’ve only had it once or twice, even though you can get it here in NC. The one I’m having a problem with is the salt water beer. I would think it would retard the yeast, or wipe it out altogether. My hat’s off to these ladies for their scientific achievement, far beyond getting a bigger bag to steep their hops.
Cool, interesting post. It makes me wish I liked beer a little more.

The dogs aren’t running, they’re leashed and sit by their owners feet. And there’s no meal to be interrupted, they don’t serve food…. just beer!

Dog people are a bit batty from time to time, but they are grounded …

I am standing with you against the growing tide of IPAs, I don’t generally like them, and they have taken over the taps at my favorite bar. This place looks good. $25,000 on healthcare for a rescue? Darn good people, that’s for sure. I’d buy a tee shirt to help offset that.

Our small local only has 10 taps. 7 of them are usually IPAs.

That’s like mine. Of course, one of the ones not an IPA is Bud Light and Sam Seasonal (which is only good when it’s Octoberfest).

Sam has a winter wheat with a pale blue label that’s tolerable. But I take your point…

I used to always drink Boston Lager, but I came to find it too filling. Tastes change, I suppose.

OMG! Just leave beer alone. Heineken is laughing in his grave right about now. You are welcome to do all this experimenting, just do not call it “beer”. Hey wait! Can I just refer to wine as “yeast pee” since that is pretty much all it is!

Nope. I shall try any and all weird beers put forth in front of me!

We used to have a restaurant around here which offered a “sampler” of any four beers you wanted to try out. It was very popular. Unfortunately, I think Covid helped expedite their demise. IPA’s have definitely been a big thing here as well.

I have nothing against them, but they need to offer something else as well.

No doubt OLIVE OYL would fall
For the Pit, and so would I….
But I fear that a beer not spinach-flavored
Might taste like the pits to Popeye.

Popeye would be disappointed. Not a spinach beer in sight…

Well, I don’t know what you’d make of the beer over here, but we do have thousands to choose from. I’m intrigued by the itty bitty glasses – tasting glasses? – but not the beer cocktails. It goes against nature! 😉

Sampling glasses, yes. Four to a flight board. Beer cocktails were odd, I agree.

I would love that brewery – I’mnot a tan of the hops crazy!
One of my local family run breweries used to have a huge Husky dog on site and I wanted to take him home as a body pillow!! They opened more locations and hired staff so I have ‘t seen the dog in ages.

Olive comes to visit when it’s not too busy, but there were two other dog patrons when we arrived..

I know it sounds weird, but it really tasted like a margarita. Not salty.

I don’t know….
We were dogless so I didn’t think to ask.
