.
Floor shopping continues and the other day I decided to check out some solid hardwoods.
.

.
As usual I brought my trusty sample piece of broken trim to color coordinate shades. This cherry had potential…
.

.
And while this Acacia was spot on for color…
.

.
It was way too wild in application.
.

.
This oak looked promising…
.

.
But turned red in a hurry.
.

.
Cumaru?
.

.
Never heard of it, but it looks too much like a checkerboard for my taste.
And since I don’t want to replace this floor right now…
.

.
I’m leaning towards something with a bit of grey in the tone as it will butt up against the kitchen in two spots.
.

.
Which is why I keep coming back to this one.
Thoughts?
.
Do you really want other people’s opinions which would be based on personal preferences?

Sometimes people have better ideas. But I’ll do what I want regardless…

Exactly so – and I’ll keep my opinion to myself…where it belongs.

In my opinion, you should ask Lord Dudley’s opinion (it’s his house, after all) — unless it’s paws up, assume it’s thumb’s down.

He likes carpet and probably won’t be pleased with the change.

I realize your trying to match the floor color to the baseboards, but if it’s off a shade or two, would that drive you completely nuts? I think I know that answer to that…lol.

In not trying to match exactly. But the whole room has that tone, it’s got to blend.

Having just been through this ourselves, I feel your pain. I’m always partial to oak, which is why we chose an oak laminate. Ours isn’t particularly red.

If all my trim and doors were white I wouldn’t be so picky. But it’s going to be a lot of wood…

I think the last one matches your sofa and Lord Dudley. What’s not to love?

Well, the sofa is the next thing to go…
But thanks.

As long as you’re keeping Lord Dudley!

I like the last one. I don’t think you want a floor calling attention to itself. Let the rest of the roo do that.

That’s the way I’m leaning….

Yes, I like the last one as well. You have a good looking floor there, which makes the rest of the room’s contents “pop” rather than a situation where the floor is stealing the spotlight from the room and its contents.

Thanks.
Now I just have to hope it looks the same in person as it does in the picture…

Will there be various wood furniture pieces, ie pine, rosewood and something else? That might be worth considering. I actually like the acacia. But have you considered a hand knotted Turkish rug? One of those outrageously expensive ones is on my bucket list.

Yes, our furniture will be varying woods. Cherry, mahogany etc.
And I’m sure there will be a rug. That flooring app removed mine.

Print media is going out of fashion but I’d be going to a newsagent and look through some home decor magazines. There might be some interesting tips as well as looks for food for thought. Happy planning!

Red would be the most offensive to me. *sigh* This is so hard!! I don’t mind the last one you shared in the post. When you add back your rug, it will tone down a bit too.

No matter how many I look at, that’s the one I keep coming back to. It may not be perfect but it probably ticks off as many boxes as possible.

I get the desire for a tie-in with the kitchen, but I really liked the cumaru, and I quite liked the oak and even the acacia, too.

The oak was way too red for me, and the acacia too wild. I feel a bit like Goldilocks as nothing is quite right…

It’s not you. Anyone would get overwhelmed by the number of choices.
