Let’s play.

.

This week’s question is in honor of a certain Spam obsessed blogger who shall remain nameless.

Oh, who am I kidding?

It’s Mark, he’s crazy for the stuff.

.

.

As far as I’m concerned Spam is a four letter word. A more disgusting gelatinous meat wanna be you’re not apt to find.

.

.

Blech.

🤢

Fresh off the assembly line in 1937.

I’ve heard rumors they’ll be making a second batch any day now.

.

Health food it’s not.

My late MIL was the queen of spam. Spam loaf, spam spaghetti, spam and beans… hell, she even made spam pie.

I’ve never been able to stomach the canned abomination and don’t understand why anyone would voluntarily consume it.

So my question is… yay or nay?

Where do you stand on Spam.

  1. The salt content alone would put anyone off and yet…but when you are poor – never had it in my parents house but have made it for others – sliced, dredged in flour, fried with a poached egg on top.

  2. While working in rural Nicaragua we had a limited diet. We were given a case of a Norwegian version of Spam. Each day, whoever was cooking would try to find a new way to use it. While it was fun and gave us some new variety in our diet of rice and beans, it wasn’t as good as when I found a tamarind tree. And no, I haven’t eaten Spam in the nearly 40 years since then.

  3. Spam is the food product of choice for historical wargamers. Sliced thin and served up on white bread with mustard and raw onion, it’s delicious. Of course, that hot date that might happen later on probably won’t.

  4. That’s a HUGE NAY for me! My boys all love it, but I can’t stand the stuff because of the taste and texture is gross not to mention all the sodium. Look if I want ham I’m going to buy ham and not some knock off that was make for soldiers on the front during the WWII. But, I’m sure people in Hawaii would argue with me because apparently they are to largest population that consume to the most Spam in the world. Sure fire way to get me NOT to eat something, make Spam and cover it in cilantro……..YUCK! Sorry Mark….lol

  5. Nay. And I grew up eating it (sliced, fried/cooked in a thick brown sugar sauce, and topped with mashed potatoes).

Spam cake was fine (can’t taste it at all), but done only as an experiment and won’t be repeated.

  6. Spam is possibly a knock-off of the Cansdian product Klik, which was first sold in Canada “during the 30s.” I can remember being served Klik as a child, but if I had any feelings either way I don’t remember them.
But having just read about what Spam is (originally was?) made of makes me wonder how they took such a delicious cut of meat (pork shoulder) and turned it into an oversalted fat conglomeration. It just so happens we made pork shoulder soup for supper last night, and it was very tasty. We made enough for 3 or 4 days. Yum yum.

      1. Again, only active blog participants are allowed to vote. Unless you’d like me to register all 8 of my husband’s siblings who can’t stand it…
