A visit to the Salvation Army thrift store is always interesting. You never know what you’ll find.

This furniture set had me scratching my head…

That would make eating spaghetti a hazardous experience.

Considering the election results, I’d say he’s a little late.

We still have one tree with turning leaves.

Just one, everything else is bare.

Our Bradford Pear is always the final holdout of the season and never wants to let go.

Nature is a beautiful thing.

The husband took me to one of our favorite high end artsy fartsy stores the other day because he likes to gauge my reaction to possible birthday and Christmas gifts. Usually jewelry, sometimes lamps or sculpture.

This time?

It was benches.

Made from ax handles and pitchforks.

Whaaaaat?

He was totally enamored.

But for a few thousand dollars each I made sure he knew it was a giant no for me.

      1. There’s a theory that subterranean pre-quake movement or pressure changes cause them to surface. One is rare… maybe every few years. Two, in under a month, is virtually unheard of!

  7. Oh, and if that rocker dining set came in miniature, it would be perfect for a classroom. Kids today are so hyperactive (I think it’s all the shitty food and screen time). There’s a whole industry dedicated to making things for them that allow them to fidget at their desk without being super disruptive.

  8. Pretty as that bench may be it certainly doesn’t look like anything I would want to sit on! And now I have to look up oarfish…I used to love rocking chairs, always had one. Then the dog ate my beautiful big wicker one and I never got another, not sure why exactly I stopped liking them.

      1. Our Russian Olive is a strange tree, or should I say bush. Wierd facts:
        1) After a bitterly cold and windy winter the top of the tree died sbove the fence line. For 10 years it grew out, not up. Now it is getting tall again, but still just as bushy.
        2) The leaves are green on top, greyish-green on the bottom. They never change colour, and they don’t fall off till Spring.
        3) They have thorns like a rose, Big sharp thorns.
        4) You can prune a Russian Olive, but it can grow a whole 10′ long limb back in one summer if it wants to fill up the space. The more you prune, the lower to the ground it grows.
        There was another oddity that happened for only 1 summer, but I cannot remember what it was. But weird!

      2. Russian Olives are an invasive species here that we rip out as soon as they’re spotted. They can take over a field in no time flat and are hard to eradicate once established.

  10. That first picture got me. Rocking dining chairs? I have my great grandmother’s rocking chair and I love it. I was supposed to pass it down through the family as babies arrived. My brother’s kids are 10 years older than mine and they didn’t want it for their babies. And mine don’t have children. So it’s mine.

  11. Maybe he’s hinting at what he wants you to get for him. I think I’d want to do some bending of the fork tines – no lumbar support. Maybe that’s why they won’t let you sit on them. You’d find out how uncomfortable they are.

    As for the harbinger of doom, I’d say the doom is still on the way. We ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

  12. One oar fish is noteworthy. Two oar fish says something is going on down deep. I wonder what is killing them?
    I think dining rocking chairs would be wonderful for a kid’s table at large gatherings. Give them something fun to do while the grown-ups talk.
