They’ve been mercilessly cavorting on our deck providing hours of free kitty entertainment… as well as frustration.

We give our squirrels unsalted peanuts. They also eat bits of the various seeds and feeds we put out for the birds. We’ve only rarely seen them nibble on carrot pieces, and when I toss out bits of apple, they look at me like I’m crazy. Other critters love the apples, but I’ve seen squirrels pick them up and toss them back on the ground.
