A series of cat and squirrel segues … with zucchini.

.

Reading, with cat.

.

.

It’s cute, but not always easy.

And speaking of cats…

.

.

I’m wearing my fair share of battle armor myself and should probably eat healthier.

And speaking of eating healthier, I found this recipe…

.

.

A good for you snack.

And speaking of that…

.

.

I never knew this.

.

.

And am glad I’ve only ever fed our squirrels raw nuts.

.

.

And speaking of squirrels…

.

.

They’ve been driving His Lordship crazy.

.

.

Knowing he can’t reach them…

.

.

They’ve been mercilessly cavorting on our deck providing hours of free kitty entertainment… as well as frustration.

.

.

😊

  1. We give our squirrels unsalted peanuts. They also eat bits of the various seeds and feeds we put out for the birds. We’ve only rarely seen them nibble on carrot pieces, and when I toss out bits of apple, they look at me like I’m crazy. Other critters love the apples, but I’ve seen squirrels pick them up and toss them back on the ground.

  2. I give the corvids unsalted cashews for similar reasons. But they are much smarter than squirrels and will avoid salt. Maybe I should post this information on my neighbor’s front door–they feed the squirrels peanuts constantly.

  3. With the price of fresh zucchini it’s more economical for me to buy frozen zucchini fries – I love zucchini – I turned my Boston Irish meat & potatoes husband into a zucchini/eggplant loving IBM (Italian By Marriage) – another reason his family disliked me.

Didn’t know that about peanuts & squirrels. Good to know.

  4. There are half a dozen or so black walnut trees in our yard. No hungry squirrels here. The gnaw away the husk, leaving a black mess that stains everything it touches, and take pleasure in throwing the soil out of the plants on our front porch to hide away nuts they have gathered. Sadly they will forget all about them.

  5. I love it when parents read to their cats.

The squirrels have been stealing roasted but unsalted peanuts from my crows. I feel a little better about it, knowing they aren’t good for them. But since salt is bad for the crows, I won’t switch to salted.
