.
Looking out the kitchen window while doing dishes last week… I saw an owl.
.

.
We hardly ever spot them so I was tickled to get a photograph, even if it was only of his back.
Then… about 10 minutes later?
.

.
There he was!
.

.
A beautiful barred owl perched on our back deck railing.
.

.
Sitting pretty and letting me snap some much better pics.
.
.
He didn’t even mind the deer showing up for dinner.
.

.
My husband and I were like little kids at the zoo and clicked photos like mad.
.

.
He was so beautiful!

Oh wow. What a morning. I would be ONE big kid too if I witnessed that. Brilliant. I really enjoyed this post and I was grinning from ear to ear.

In 23 years of living here I think we’ve had one owl land on the roof.
This was magical!

I bet. I wouldn’t be surprised if you witness more encounters with this owl.

Fantastic pics – especially the one with the deer walking away under the beady eye ogf the owl. 🙂

Wonderful photos and video. We’ve heard owls around here but I’ve never seen one. Thanks for sharing these images.

Wow, gorgeous! We have a great horned owl living in backyard tree whom we see occasionally. Owls really are such beautiful, majestic creatures.

We hung a saw-whet owl house in the back yard but we are still waiting for someone to move in. It may be too late for nesting but I feel optimistic about the next next time around.
Cathy and I are not envious people. This experience puts that to the test. Good for you.

Saw-whet’s are adorable! If they move in, be sure to share.

Omg you are so lucky! What a great shot! I love owls, they are closely associated with us Libras. Really beautiful.

I can’t believe he stayed as long as he did.
It was wonderful!

He looks wise-perhaps a harbinger of good news. We have a few crows talking as we clean our yard and get ready for the Spring. I believe they are talking about something they are protecting in a nearby pond. They use our fountain to dip their bread.

We have a crow family of family that live in our woods. Noisy devils.

Gorgeous gorgeous owl and deer! I could use more of those and less javelina and wolf!

I’ll trade you a few deer for a javelina… but I’m keeping the owl.

Amazing. In daylight and not afraid of you being out there with it.

Technically we were in the house taking pictures through the window… but still. He knew we were there and it was magical.

Well, sh*t. Now I want a flock of owls instead of crows swarming me.
Given how dark the mornings are now, they might even show up…

Perhaps you could cover yourself in live mice and voles…

Holy wow! Amazing and beautiful. I occasionally hear one hooting in the yard in the pre-dawn hours, but I’ve never actually seen one there. That head swivel is amazing, too.

That is so cool. I love the nights when I can hear the great horned owls calling. The bar owls are also very cool, but their screech is eldricht–we kept wondering what the unearthly noise was until I checked the Audubon Society’s webpage.
