We have a little brick landing at the bottom of our back deck steps. My husband built it years ago without laying gravel so it heaves and shifts and separates and allows grass and weeds to fill in the cracks. This year I think portulaca has taken hold so I’m letting it grow in case it blooms.
But I digress…

This landing had become one of our woodchuck babies preferred spots.

The spot where he stands watch.

Over what, I have no idea.

But he takes his sentinel position very seriously.

He (or she) looks pretty intense. If I was a skunk, or some other such critter, I would be wary.

Woodchucks always look intense.
Or pissed off.
Permanent frowns on the little devils.

Chuckies are so cute. Wonder why they sit up like they do? Why don’t all animals sit like that? 🤔(I’m always wondering things)

I think they’re like meerkats, to get a higher view of their surroundings.

The expressions are that of a seasoned warrior. I am scared of entering his territory!

So cute! And those who are prey need to be watchful. (Perhaps a lesson for humans, too?)

Unless you’re a carrot or a chunk of watermelon? You’re safe.

Unfortunately, I have come to think that everyday folks are prey for the very wealthy.

That guard is too cute to cross. I will respect his authority…with a big smile.
