Last chuck standing and a feline doppelgänger.

.

We’re down to one single woodchuck now.

.

.

Momma and the other 3 siblings have departed the pattern…

.

.

But this little guy knows a good thing when he sees (and eats) it.

.

.

😊

Saw this the other day and had to do a double take.

.

.

And while it’s absolutely true, I had to wonder if it also looks like anyone we know….?

.

.

❤️

.

The evening shift.

.

Our lawn has turned brown from the troubling lack of rain, but that doesn’t stop our nightly critter visitors.

.

.

Skunks and raccoons are usually not a good mix…

.

.

But these guys make it work.

.

.

There are five trash pandas here…

.

.

And this family has been coming since they were babies.

.

.

I rarely get photos because they arrive after dark but here’s a quick clip to give you an idea.

.

.

💕

.

A miniature feeding frenzy.

.

There have always been hummingbirds at Casa River.

.

.

I put a sugar water feeder out (no artificial dye) as soon as we spot the first one appear in May and enjoy watching the brilliant little jewels drop by for a drink now and then.

We rarely see more than two at a time.

But this year we have three, and four…

.

.

And five.

.

.

And then?

Holy hummers Batman!

We’ve been bombarded by hungry avians.

.

.

I had to put out a second feeder and I’m refilling them every single day.

It’s been crazy…

But absolutely marvelous!

💕

Garden fluff and one very chill squirrel.

.

My new garden bed is starting to fill in…

.

.

But I wish the woodchucks hadn’t eaten all my mid summer blooms. So much for strategically timed planting.

.

.

The geraniums are doing well.

.

.

I was a bit late getting these in due to my mystery illness, but they’re flourishing now.

.

.

Our Japanese Spirea surprised me this year by branching off in white on the right side.

.

.

It’s always been solid pink…

.

.

But not anymore.

.

.

Close up of its fuzzy blooms.

The bees love it.

.

.

And yes, that’s one entirely too chill red squirrel.

.

There’s a new toy at Casa River.

.

My husband went to Lowe’s for some weed wacker string the other day.

.

.

So of course he came home with a new $800 battery operated lawn mower.

.

.

Oh, it’s fancy.

.

.

Multi speed self propelled motor, dual blades, telescopic adjustable handle…

.

.

So fancy it took him 15 minutes to figure out how to start it.

.

.

There’s so much extra tech… it came with three instruction manuals.

And neon green mulching blades.

And a detachable cell phone carrier.

It even has a cup holder.

🥴

.

.

I told him it looked like a Tesla.

He was not amused.

.

.

There was a learning curve and it took him a little while to get used to it. But then he was off and running…

.

.

To he honest, I don’t think he loves it as much as he thought he would.

Not that he’d ever admit it.

😉

And no, He doesn’t push mow our whole back lawn. Just around the house, garden beds, barn and tighter spaces.

.

This is not good.

.

As you know, we have always had a resident red squirrel menace.

.

.

I’m sure this isn’t the original terror from years ago, but one of her numerous demon offspring.

.

.

She teases the cat, poops on the patio furniture…

.

.

Shreds the deck posts, excavates passages through the woodshed walls, chews holes in the man cave/Barn Mahal, burrows into the house eaves and builds nests everywhere to continue her accursed family.

.

.

I know this because…

.

.

We’re knee deep in the destructive little bastards right now.

.

.

Not good!

Not good at all….

😫

Random cat nonsense, and a skunk.

.

I don’t know who invented this or where I can get one, but it’s brilliant.

.

.

Anyone who’s ever stepped in a pile of it barefoot will appreciate a warning sign.

.

.

Cats.

There’re always where you don’t want them.

.

.

And as soon as my husband started rolling coins on the ottoman?

Sleeping cat.

.

.

And cat cleaning privates when your human isn’t paying him enough attention.

🤣

.

.

Huh..

So it is.

.

.

Skunks.

.

.

They’re not always black with a white stripe.

.

.

😊
