.
We hadn’t seen much of mother red squirrel lately, which after the last pregnant photo I took of her.. was a very good thing.
.
.
But she showed up yesterday…
.
.
Looking kind of rough. Motherhood must be taking its toll this time around.
.
.
Now if only I could coordinate her visits with this new addition to the backyard wildlife sightings….
.
.
He could solve all our squirrel problems in one fell swoop.

Letting Nature take her course??

Then I shall enlist a hawk battalion.

In normal times I work on a college campus that’s also an arboretum with about 190 different species of trees. It’s a place where the squirrels are fat and happy. And so are the hawks.
I appreciate this reminder that nature is lively but also red in tooth and claw.

I love the fluffy grey squirrels, but after battling the little red bastards all year.. and just finding a new hole chewed through our barn? I’d relish spilling a little blood.

Red squirrels are undoubtedly Republicans. That’s why yours does what she will, doesn’t care about you, and probably thinks you should vote for her anyway.

That’s not a fake owl. It’s a real live hawk…. and I hope he’s hungry.
