If you’ve ever visited my state and had a conversation with the locals, you might have been baffled by some of our regional expressions. You had no idea what the hell we were talking about? No worries… I’m here to help.
.

.
We say this a lot. (But please ignore the ‘how’. It should be now.)
.

.
Hint – “The County” is usually uttered with derision in southern Maine. Aroostook is potato country, way up by the Canadian border…. we have to pump sunlight to those people.
.

.
This a is a very popular word in my neck of the woods. It affirms a position as well as cutting off the need for further discussion. Mainers can be a taciturn bunch.
.

.
Personally, I don’t use this term. The word tourist and it’s synonyms… snowbirds, outta staters, Massholes ( specific to people from the Boston area ) are much more common. But these people do swarm our best areas from June to September and are extremely easy to spot.

.
Like this couple we saw the other day.
Mainers. Do. Not. Wear. Bibs. When. Eating. Lobster.
Ever.
🤣
.
“Snowbirds” is the only word we use for you Yankees!! (Well, except for a few key curse words!)

I get it. Pine Staters are not only experienced at eating lobster but smart enough to know that none of it should be wasted, and if you’re wearing a bib you’re wasting lobster.

Aside from the fact you look ridiculous, yes.

I’ve never eaten lobster wearing a bib…..and I live in Texas.

Which probably means you’ve never eaten real lobster…

I never said I ate it here in El Paso, and it was most definitely real lobster. Maybe not Maine lobster, it was Pacific Northwest lobster. 😎

I don’t wear a bib either.
But I’ve also never been to Maine.
Yet.

Hmm. I lived in the PNW for 20+ years. Never heard of anybody finding lobster out there. Dungeness crab, on the other hand? Ayuh.

People have all kinds of silly ideas what lobster is, but unless you’re eating it up my way? Beware.

I long to eat lobster in Maine. And I will NOT wear the bib. But I might be wearing bibs. Is that acceptable? I’m already thinking of some good touristy names for country folk like me lol 😂

Are you kidding? We’re mostly country folk up here, you’ll fit right in!
