.
Or rippin’ for short.
I’ve heard people call it the zoomies, but I can’t quite wrap my tongue around that.
Whatever the nomenclature, it’s when your pet goes spastic and starts tearing around the house like a whirling dervish. For Lord Dudley Mountcatten it happens every evening around 7:00. He starts to twitch, gets a wild look in his eye and he’s off. Sprinting across the living room, down the hall, bouncing off a wall to the second hall, up and over the bed, across the top of a chair, back down the halls, through the kitchen, ending under the dining room table with a toy.
.

.
Last night it was the blue feathered whale and as you can see, he was having a grand old time.
.

.
Wish I was that limber.
.

.
I’m not sure why he has a fascination with furniture legs…
.

.
But when he’s in rippin’ mode he always wraps around them to play.
.

.
Cats.
They be crazy.
.
I think of that as “Otto earning his supper”. We don’t have carpet, it’s hardwood and rugs. There are low traction conditions at the corners, so he drifts into the wall, and he can often be seen burrowing under a rug in search of an escaping toy. So much better than TV.

Reminds me of puppy crazies…similar twirling spazzy racing around like a maniac… 🤪
I love your cat and especially his name. It’s because of Lord Dudly Mountbatten I named our Beagle Sir Tucker the Beaglehound which is less clever but adds a bit of effect nonetheless. 🙃

My only royalty is Princess Cuddlebutt, who’s nickname is literally “Evil”.

He’s the first cat I’ve given a full proper name, not to mention title. My husband thinks it’s nuts but I like it.
And hey, I’m glad to be your inspiration!

When we had cats, they were nicknamed, the good, the bad and the ugly. It kinda fit too.

Yep, it’s the Zoomies, Charlie gets them too. But it’s usually around 2 am which really, REALLY gets on my nerves. Because I don’t have carpet and when he’s speeding down the hall to make a turn, he usually skids right past and hits the wall. I’ve heard hundreds of “thunks” almost every night. Cats definitely be crazy.

This makes me wish I had less carpet.

My cat to the best of my knowledge never had these moments of “scheduled” activity. It must be wild to see this on a regular basis. Perhaps he had them outside and I never noticed, but this sounds like an inside thing. That being said, if you ever gave my cat the clear plastic wrapper off of a pack of cigarettes, it would demolish everything in its path playing with the damn thing…like it was a blue feathered whale.

Lord Dudley is fickle when it comes to toys. This month it’s a feathered whale, next month it will be a sisal mouses. If I drop a frozen blueberry on the floor? Look out…

So are their owners which is why we love them—the CATS! And, yes, their owners!

Why so defiant about being owners? Cats are not slaves. They are our equals in every way. Cats are members of the family. I will never and never have owned a cat. But many have owned me, and I am okay with that!

It’s a joke–you obviously know nothing and River and me–or do you have any idea of my relationships with animals–take a break–smile–rub a cat’s belly!

Nope. I know nothing aboit you. I have lived with over a 100 cats in my life. Every one of them has been a wonderful feline being.

Sydney hasn’t been rippin’ in many years. She’s far too old for that now. 😦

They do outgrow it, which is sad.

We have 2 zoomie hours here… around 8pm and again at 4am.
MommaAsh loooooves to freak out on the cat tree, sometimes upside down while attacking the upright poles.

4 am is a bit early. But I bet the tree is a hoot.

We call it The Crazies, but only our girl cats do it. Every night at bedtime.
The boys are more sophisticated.

All our guys have done it at one time or another. So funny.

Too cute!
Tigger, Jazz, & Cayenne would run at break-neck speed, grabbing toys, tossing toys, kicking off of table legs or sofas, galloping some more.
We miss it!

It’s one of the best parts of being owned by a cat.

zoomies. Stella and Louie will do it in a figure 8 around the ottoman and chair. It’s funny.

I call it the Zoomies, but I often shout Parkour when Peanut bounces off the furniture and walls! It’s quite a sight to see for those four minutes a day. 🙂
