There’s nothing worse than not being able to take advantage of freebies. And while I was thrilled to win a free book a when I first joined Goodreads, not being able to claim their next giveaway offer is frustrating.

I hate ereaders and don’t own a Kindle. Audio is not my thing either. So because I’m old school and prefer tactile reading, I’m missing out on a free book.
And that’s frustrating.
😖
you don’t need a kindle you can download the kindle app to any device and read from there…tablet, computer etc.

But that’s the point. I don’t like reading digitally, I want a real book.

I understand, truly I do and perhaps time and circumstance will never keep you from a library but for those of us who have no physical access to a library or the monetary resources to spend on a ‘throw-away’ book, ebooks have been a godsend. I do still on occasion buy a hard copy of a book. But buy a book I know I will only read once? No I have better things to do with my limited funds. I too was adamant I would never do ebooks and now I appreciate them for many reasons. When I find something I want to copy and keep I can now easily highlight, copy and paste it into a document on my computer – my “Quotes’ file is chock-a-block. When I come across a word I don’t know I can instantly look it up, if I come across some interesting concept I can also easily research it. These aspects of books – new words, intriguing ideas, are important to me and easily followed up with ebooks. I don’t do audio books because I don’t absorb spoken information – a real problem for me when I was in college but if there comes a time when my vision is compromised I may well have to find a way to adapt. Enjoy your hard copies, or real books as you call them, I know their allure and may you always have the ability to indulge that pleasure.

I understand that as well and am glad we have options when it comes to reading. As you say, there may come a day when I have to switch and I’m sure I’ll be very glad digital is there.

Real is not everyone’s cup of tea, but it sure beats fake. A hardcover is good to read and muse but if you can adapt, kindle is also good.

I’ve tried, I just don’t enjoy it.

I’m with you, I detest e-readers and anything like them. I do podcasts in my car but I don’t do audio books either. I like the real hardcover book.

Reading is a tactile pleasure for me. A fresh new book, the paper, the heft of it. I love them all.

I hear ya, and I completely agree with you. And I save all my books as well, I collect hardcover classic literature and fiction, leather bound. It’s like collecting shoes, but these I’ll keep forever, lol.

Perfect! Nothing warms a room like shelves full of books.

When you try for the Freebies, you have to check that you want Print Books.

I didn’t try for anything on this one.

I find real books soothing and more navigable. I’m constantly loosing my place in digital books by hitting some button or something on the screen.

There’s something comforting about snuggling up with a good book that you just cant get from a screen.

Once upon a time, as a budding author, I too was opposed to eBooks, but I am fully Team Kindle these days. The convenience and backlight features alone make it worth the splurge.

I’m not a budding anything but you’ll have to pry my hardcover book from my cold dead hands.

Sounds like you’re a budding Kindle hater actually.

No budding about that.

I’ve been a ‘book in my hand’ reader too, but I’m thinking of trying digitally, just for the back lighting part. My pups constantly yank my book light off my book. Little turds.

I’ve never used a book light, but then I rarely read in bed.
