I’ve discovered shopping for dining room furniture with my husband isn’t any easier than shopping for living rooms. Don’t let anyone tell you women are hard to please…
Our current dining set is a 40 year old Queen Anne style table, chairs and china hutch and though it’s served us well… it’s time for a change to something more casual.
.

.
I liked this one… but my husband didn’t like the table legs.

To be honest, he was more interested in figuring out this kitchen island we didn’t need.
.

.
It had a hole in the middle of the chopping block for scraps and he couldn’t figure out how you’d empty it.
.

.
Until I pulled open the drawer on the other side.
The search continues….
.
I love that scrap hole, though the cats would certainly try to find a way to squeeze in there.
I like tables 1 and 2. Your husband is fussy, fussy.

I had no idea he was this fussy until we started shopping together. He always says “buy what you want”… well, I’m trying!

Love them all! Mine is an oak on a pedestal but no one sees it as I am so casual, I have two tablecloths on it and the top one vinal but pretty, as all winter I have my watercolors at the ready.

I think I would give up on him and get what I wanted. He would get used to it.

It may come to that…
I’ll just tell him it was on sale.

Geez…his opinion shouldn’t count 😅

I don’t mind an opinion, but he doesn’t like anything!

I suspect the reason he “doesn’t like anything” is because he likes the old set and wants to keep it….and, if he’s like me, he doesn’t believe in change just for the sake of change. After all, he’s kept you (and vice versa) for all these years! 😀

Perhaps. But the old table has seen better days and needs to go. I have hope there’s a dining set out there… just waiting for him to fall in love with it. It’s my job to find it.

Well, maybe you just need to buy the dining set you want and have it delivered and that’s that. I didn’t realize he’d give you this much resistance. Maybe he’s just wanting to hold on to the old table so he’s not being very helpful.

You could be right. He admits we need new living room furniture but he might not be on board with changing the dining set…

You need to bring along a sandwich and a beer. They will capture his attention whilst you pick out the table and chairs of your choice.

Brilliant idea!
If I add a small television with a John Wayne movie? He won’t even notice…

I like the first one. I like the island, but not really a fan of the slop hole. I’m guessing that something in that drawer is going to end up brushing up against the underside of the top.

I wasn’t a fan either. Though I’m sure Lord Dudley would be…

I like the pedestal base too. I don’t think having a garbage can beneath your counter is a good idea unless you empty it often!

oh lort..i would have cringed deeply if i had to live with that scrap catcher drawer. I truly hope you do not have to ..lol…but i must say i agree with the husband about the first one ( table legs wiould be in the way of getting in and out , for me at least) and ive never liked pedestal tables…the second one i would def stub my toes on..lol…guess i’m just super picky as well..maybe a floating table?hahaha…

No, the drawer stayed at the store. As did everything else.

I loved the table with the pedestal base. It almost looks antique.
It can be enlightening to shop with a man. I’ve been there.

Enlightening is not the word I’d use, but okay.

The fun never ends with you two! Can you imagine how dirty the underside of that island chopping hole could get?
Do you have to buy the dining room as a set? Can you mix and match chairs to a preferred table?

I think you can switch. We never really got that far because he didn’t like anything…
Except the hole of course.

I like the first table best. If he’s opposed to certain chairs, you could always offer him a project to upholster or whatever them more to his liking!

Are you new here? His finish carpentry skills do not meet my standards.

I was trying to broker a compromise, which admittedly was a shot in the dark.
