.
We have green grass!
And deer.
.

.
Our resident buck has finally dropped that pesky second antler and is in the process of blowing his winter coat.
.

.
No, we don’t say shedding in Maine.
No, I don’t know why.
.

.
I always think adult male deer look wonky with those big knobs on their heads in the spring.
.

.
But judging from the tongue sticking out of his mouth, he doesn’t much care what I think.
😉
.
Still a handsome guy.

He is. And we’re very glad he made it through hunting season.

It’s like a revolving zoo in our backyard. We love it.

Their coats never do look particularly good after the winter but they seem healthy.

We have a nice, healthy, active herd. Woods and fields and plenty of food.

All your critters are lucky to live in the domain of the food lady. 🥞🥞🥞Have some pancakes, you’ve earned them.

I actually did have pancakes this morning. With wild Maine blueberries.

Excellent! I made some for dinner yesterday, with Wyman’s allegedly wild Maine blueberries. I’m sure they’re legit, No way I could tell Cathy they aren’t.

Wymans are absolutely real wild Maine blueberries! Frozen right after picking from their 10,000 acres in my beautiful state. Family owned since 1874.

At $14/ bag I’m relieved. I’m not a big fan but Cathy has an extra blue smoothie every morning, which adds up to a big bag every week. Worth it.

They almost look like action characters. Have you thought of trade marking them?

Why not…

Isn’t spring called mud season in main?

It is, but our snow melted early this year so we didn’t have much.

I love your deer photos. I’ve never heard of “blowing” their coat. I read that cardinals do that once a year, too.

Haha the tongue sticking out is perfect!

I think “blowing their coat” is very much a northern term, because there is so much fur on animals like huskies and Siberian cats. Southern climes see shedding year round, but the spring phenomenon of blowing a heavy winter coat all at once? It’s crazy.

We find clumps of their coat all over the lawn.

Does this mean when people in Maine celebrate birthdays, they “shed” the candles on the cake before making a wish?
