Before and after….

.

Our new flooring is (90%) done so I thought you might like to see a few before and afters.

Keep in mind the before shots don’t show how truly terrible and worn out the old Berber carpet really was.

(With a gaping hole on the upper right waiting for the new dining room set to arrive.)

With the same empty space on the left.

Another after from the empty dining space.

Some of these after pictures don’t do it justice as the true color is hard to capture. It’s not as dark as it looks in some and has a much warmer tone in person.

.

So this is what $20,000 looks like…. otherwise known as before and after.

Before.

One long, dirty, noisy, and inconvenient process later….

After.

.

.

Pardon the little puddle. It’s been raining every day for a freakin’ month.

It’s an amazing difference and I can’t wait to drive on it.

.

.

Since we had the crew replace the culvert as well, sod or grass seed will be in our future.

.

.

But the husband is currently battling with the state DOT to fill in the entire 300 feet of ditch which has been a nightmare since we moved in 20 years ago and doesn’t want to start fixing the lawn until he has a definitive answer.

.

.

The old driveway was a straight shot to the road but now we have a nice open curved entry and no immediate ditch to worry about driving into on dark nights.

.

.

We are pleased.

.

$2,000+ later….

.

The day arrived.

Preparations were made.

.

.

And a fond farewell was bid to our loyal 13 year old washer and dryer.

.

.

Our laundry room is small (it used to be a spare half bath) so I was a little worried the delivery men would have a hard time maneuvering the heavy appliances in and out. Lord knows my husband and I did.

.

.

But before I could even blink they had the old ones unhooked and out the door. Granted they didn’t have far to go, but the way they did it with these amazing moving straps that wrap around their backs, over their shoulders and under the machines?

.

.

Fabulous!

And now I totally want a pair.

.

.

Viola!

While the drums are slightly larger than our old set, the machines themselves are actually a bit smaller so …. weee! I have a few extra inches of floor space to play with.

I was a little hesitant to go with the charcoal grey as we’ve always had white, but it looks more like black which blends nicely with our stove and fridge.

These things were literally twice the price of our old ones so my fingers are crossed they have a long sudsy life.

.

And so it begins.

.

We chose a local company and our big barn will finally get some color in his cheeks.

An oil based stain was matched to baby barn’s red paint… and white trim will finish him off.

I’ve been waiting 8 years for this…  so, yay.

The painters showed up the other day to pressure wash off the black mold. They thought this would be a quick prep, saying it would only take a few hours.

.

.

10 gallons of bleach, one broken pressure washer, an auxiliary pump and 8 hours later…

.

.

They recalculated and said they wouldn’t be able to get it all off as promised.

Which we told them would be the case, as we’d tried ourselves and failed.

But they got a lot more than we managed, and it looks better.

Of course they had to move all the trim wood we’d bought to do the porch, so this is now my afternoon cocktail view.

.

.

Not ideal.

.

.

But hopefully it’s more temporary than my husband’s so called temporary doors.
