A great day for moving furniture. Not!

.

When the husband and I had moved as much of the bedroom furniture as we could without help, we called for help.

.

.

And a local friend came over to assist in the ‘make room for new carpet’ clear out.

.

.

Navigating our two narrow hallways with 90 degree turns isn’t easy.

Did I mention the weather was not cooperating?

.

.

This is Maine. Older homes don’t have central air and our house isn’t set up for heat pumps.. not unless we installed 5 of them, which is not happening. Our window units only cool certain rooms and only down to a certain level of comfort. With the outdoor temperature at 104 degrees, moving furniture was not comfortable.

.

.

But it was done.

.

.

Slowly and carefully.

.

.

I hope the new carpet is worth it.

Purple haze and cats on ice.

.

While I enjoy a good Hendrix riff as much as the next girl, the purple I’m talking about is of a different variety.

.

.

Irises!

.

.

Japanese Iris to be exact.

.

.

They’re smaller and easier to deal with than their larger cousins.

.

.

But still put on a lovely show.

.

.

These pictures were taken a few weeks ago, before Maine started its horrible drought and heat wave. Things were still green, instead of the crunchy brown they are now. It’s amazing how fast the change can come. Today’s temperature?

.

.

91 and feels like 104…. at 9:00am!! Unheard of in my state. Our two window a/c units are working overtime and barely keeping up. Even His Lordship is feeling it….

.

.

Which is why I put him on an ice pack.

When I tried to remove it?

.

.

I got the look.

😳

Day 4… deck project.

Four days in and we were finally ready to start adding the balustrades.

This involved a large amount of math, which as we have previously discussed… is not our strong suit.

Measuring was required. So much measuring. The fractions, the division…

Oh! The horror.

I carefully calculated the spacing of 8 rails for each section. I checked and rechecked to make sure it was accurate.

Which meant 7 of them fit perfectly.

Am I good or what?

Okay, so there were seven instead of 8.

It still looked good and things were flowing smoothly.

Until the screw heads starting popping off.

Once they were in the railing.

Which made me cringe…. and the husband grab his all purpose fix it tool.

Have hammer, will travel.

Thankfully no harm was done and we finished 3 out of the 4 sections before calling it a day.

One more section here..

Then we’ll move on to the other side.

Hopefully the heat wave will be over by then.

Hot flashing menopausal Maine women with broken toes do not fare well in temperatures over 90.
