Don’t forget the filters!

.

It’s going to be hot in Maine today and tomorrow.

.

.

Weirdly out of season hot as you can see when our temps drop back to normal on Thursday. And even though it will only be two days of humid high temps, I talked my husband into installing our window air conditioning units this morning because yours truly has hot flashes… and a hot flashing wife is a cranky wife and a cranky wife doesn’t cook. If my guy wants a hot meal? He needs a cooled spouse.

Anyway, as we struggled to seat them …. I swear they get heavier every year!…. I looked through the grate and realized I hadn’t cleaned the filters.

.

.

Apparently for quite some time.

😳

.

.

Holy Hell!

.

.

The amount of dirt, dust, pollen, fuzz balls, cat hair, spider webs, skin cells, fish scales or whatever else the hell that is… was disgusting.

How the machines managed to work with that amount of clogged air intake last year I don’t know. But they’ll be breathing a sigh of relief this summer.

.

,

So remember …

Clean your filters!

.

A great day for moving furniture. Not!

.

When the husband and I had moved as much of the bedroom furniture as we could without help, we called for help.

.

.

And a local friend came over to assist in the ‘make room for new carpet’ clear out.

.

.

Navigating our two narrow hallways with 90 degree turns isn’t easy.

Did I mention the weather was not cooperating?

.

.

This is Maine. Older homes don’t have central air and our house isn’t set up for heat pumps.. not unless we installed 5 of them, which is not happening. Our window units only cool certain rooms and only down to a certain level of comfort. With the outdoor temperature at 104 degrees, moving furniture was not comfortable.

.

.

But it was done.

.

.

Slowly and carefully.

.

.

I hope the new carpet is worth it.

.

Blowing and sucking.

.

There was a little of both at Chez River recently… but not the kind you might think.

.

.

The blowing was in the form of a new window air conditioner we bought to replace our previous old as dirt unit. $500 and a broken back later it was installed and ready for summer. Someday someone will explain to me why these things have to weigh as much as an African elephant.

While this new a/c is more powerful and quieter than the last, I admit I was not happy with the left handed cord placement. I’m an inveterate cord hider and this monster is one inch too short to plug behind the antique radio to the left and two inches too short to swing around the corner behind the arm chair on the right … so this is the horror I must live with for the next few months.

.

.

Sigh.

.

.

Even Lord Dudley disapproves.

As for the sucking…

.

.

Yesterday morning heralded the arrival of the poop truck.

.

.

And it’s extremely long, highly suspect caca hose.

.

.

The less said about this process the better.

💩

.

More Dudley cuteness.

.

When you chase wild turkeys from the lawn on a daily basis like my husband? You often find they leave parts of themselves behind..

.

.

For which our cat is quite thankful.

.

.

Have you hugged your feather today?

( Archaic reference to a public service announcement that used to run in the 80’s. Stop snickering, I’m old. )

.

.

Lord Dudley Mountcatten was not at all pleased when we put the air conditioners in the windows after a miserably hot and humid day.

.

.

He howled and batted at them and demanded their removal from his favorite bird watching perch. Sorry Dudley, but momma’s menopausal surface of the sun internal temperature requires cooling assistance. Adjust.

.

Calling all hot flashing menopausal women….

(And partners of these women, male or otherwise…. if they want to earn some brownie points.)

Are hot flashes making you feel like you live on the surface of the sun?

Forget black cohosh.

Forget soy.

I tried both, and they didn’t touch my heat.

But this?

This works.

A personal, portable tiny air conditioner.

Soak the filter in cold water, then put it in the freezer.

Fill the reservoir with cold water…

Position it on your desk, coffee table, bedside table… point the lever straight at your face –

And let her rip.

I found mine at Home Depot for $39.99 and I’m happy.

Not as happy as I would be stepping into a sub zero walk in freezer…

But who has room for one of those in the living room?
