.
Temperatures are rising, the snow has melted and we’re seeing a bit of green grass.
But the surest sign of spring at Casa River is this:
.

.
Our first woodchuck sighting!
.

.
We’ve had a momma raise her young under our barn for the past 6 years or so and always wonder if they’ll be back.
.

.
Of course laying out some carrot slices helps.

Welcome back spring!
😌

Oh nice to see momma chucker back! And in very good condition I see, lol.

I’m actually not sure if it’s momma. Might be one of the offspring.

Looks like she had a sufficient store of food in her nest … pretty chubby for a spring chuck …

It was a very mild winter. And you know they eat well here…

Happy spring. It rained here last night, though there is snow in the forecast in a few days. Hopefully it will rain rather than snow. That is how we measure the start of Spring.
But watch out for Momma Red Squirrel. She should be back soon too!

We’ve had frost every morning but no snow. Temps are up and down, 30 one day 55 the next. As for momma red… she’s already been spotted.

It is that. I haven’t seen any groundhogs yet but they gave turned my back yard into a regular warren. The tunnels make it so bumpy it just about bucks me off the mower, bastids. That box of .22 shorties is looking better all the time.

If they’re small individual bumps it’s probably skunks searching for grubs. Our yard has the texture of bubble wrap right now…

I haven’t seen any skunks lately, and the tunnels look like tunnels, but not a bad idea to watch for skunks. I wouldn’t want to shoot one and not get it done.

I’d rather you didn’t shoot anything and learn to live in harmony with Mother Nature’s creatures.
